Question for turtle mat owners....

Their washable dirt trapping mats are so expensive. Are they actually worth the money ?

Would like a runner for the hallway but is it worth spending £80 odd pounds on a doormat. It feels insane, unless they actually will stop little people from treading filth into the house.

Exciting Sunday afternoon here eh?!

I'm going to admit I'm a saddo but I love my turtle mats. Mine are 10 years old and still going strong. I didn't buy runners but have large one for each of the three entrances and one for the kitchen sink because I wash up like a child. Then I have spares. They wash well and are now providing scratch posts for the new kittens.

I have one at the back double doors that leads off the garden (I was given it by a wealthy friend who had about 8 of them they weren’t using!) I do think they’re ludicrously expensive but having had a cheaper version and the real thing the TM deff do trap dirt. I find it’s now contained on the mat rather than trodden into my living room rug.

Yes. I have two that are more than 20 years old. Washed regularly, walked over every day, still look brand new. They really do the job too.

I don't know if cheaper imitations are just as good these days (they didn't exist when I bought mine) but these have been value for money.

Yes. Worth it.

Thatldo · 28/11/2021 18:51

Yes,worth every penny!I have mine now for 5 years and 2 human feet and 8 dogpaws are walking over it every day.go for it.

florentina1 · 28/11/2021 20:00

I have had them for several years and I have just bought two new ones. They are worth every penny. We have dog who loves to bring half of the forest back home with her. . They are super dirt absorbers and easy to wash if necessary.

PickAChew · 28/11/2021 20:03

I have a couple that I've had for many years.

I wouldn't get a runner unless you fancy taking it to a laundrette, mind. They're quite stiff so wouldn't work in most regular washers.

buckleten · 28/11/2021 20:17

I have had mine 10 years and it has been well worth it. I have an imitqtion one on the back door and it is nowhere near as good, I will be replacing it with a turtle mat one Christmas is past..

Lennybenny · 28/11/2021 20:30

My mum lost my £80 turtle mat after I lent it to her....I'm still annoyed at her and sad about it its been years....yes they are worth it.
Wash on 40° with no fabric conditioner and wash it when you first get it before you use it!

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 28/11/2021 20:41

I was really disappointed with ours, the colours faded quickly and it developed worn spots in the washing machine which showed the black backing through the pile, replaced it with a hugrug mat which absorbs way more water and dirt and is bearing up well to washing 6 months in, wouldn't buy another turtlemat.

Discontentedpony · 28/11/2021 20:43

So the runner won't fit in my washer? I did wonder about that and also surely all the dirt clogs up the washing machine?

Good to hear they last a good while so at least I'd get my money's worth too.

Yes my front door one is a few years old, traps a lot of dirt, I wash it regularly, looks as good as new when I do.

Not had the runner though,

How can she loose a door mat?
AndMatt · 28/11/2021 20:50

How can she loose a door mat?

I dont know but I'm sure I once had a large one that matches the one at my back door, but can I find it? Surely I didn't throw it away?

florentina1 · 28/11/2021 20:50

I used to have a runner, not turtle, and it was a real pain.I find that the Turtle door mat absorbs all the dirt and does away for the need of the runner.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/11/2021 20:51

I didn’t like mine. It didn’t do much for d cats muddy paws and when dh saw them he asked if some old people had moved in.

Herenowgonetomorrow · 28/11/2021 20:57

I have two - bought about ten years ago after reading about them on here. Yes they work as door mats and yes they wash up well in the washing machine. But I’m not sure why they are eulogised about. In the end they are just doormats ... I don’t really get the big deal

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 28/11/2021 20:58

I prefer hugrug too, @ExcessiveIyDisorganised. I have had a TM with a rubber border in my utility room (muddy dog) and the rubber border came away from the central ‘absorbent mat’ the first time I washed it (followed the washing instructions). Waste of money. Replaced with a hugrug which has been washed several times and has come out good as new every time.
