Just that really .Are they as effective as interdental brushes, floss ?

Are they fiddly to maintain ? How do you manage with no plug socket in bathroom ?

Would be really grateful for comments .

I love mine. I have an implant that I always have to clean out after eating so it is handy for that. I still use a stick occasionally . You definitely need a shaver point to use it though

Stickytreacle · 28/11/2021 11:14

We use one without a shaver point, just charge it up in the bedroom and use cordless in the bathroom. Works fine and supposedly better than flossing.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 28/11/2021 11:15

I had a pic and wouldn’t recommend- interdental brushes are much much better IMO

mm ,interesting .I'm thinking for my partner .He's v v messy and I wonder if this would add to all the mess .But he's not very committed to interdental brushes ,uses half heartedly and doesn't keep them clean inbetween uses .So this might be better .

Though I'm not keen on more stuff on kitchen worksurface .

Has he got the coordination to actually keep his mouth firmly shut as he uses it and the motivation to switch it off before he opens his mouth when he's finished? If not, there will be water everywhere.

As he's already 'very messy', I think he'll just turn it into something else you'll have to clean up. If he'll bother with it - it's his problem if he loses teeth, after all.

Thelnebriati · 28/11/2021 12:04

I can't fit interdental brushes between all of my teeth and also struggle to use them as I have a movement disorder, so I use a water pik. Philips has an ultrasonic portable water pik that removes plaque as well as debris. He could charge it up in the kitchen and use it in the bathroom.

If you can't floss properly, a pik is as effective as flossing;

TheInebriati thanks for that link ,that might work .

Neverdrop that's what worries me . Do you have to keep your mouth shut while using it ? How does that work ?

I have a water pik and love it. I only charge it roughly once a week and it seems to last with twice daily use. It seems much less of a faff than floss or interdental brushes so I do it more regularly.

It does take a bit of fine honing to get the technique right (I lean over the sink with my mouth slightly open to let it drain) but once you get the knack and remember to only turn it on and turn it off in your mouth it’s all good.

NotMyCat · 28/11/2021 12:21

I have a cheap Amazon one which is fine, think the brand is Hangsun
I floss and use interdental brushes too

PirateMemoryGame · 28/11/2021 12:22

Why on earth would you keep it on the kitchen work surface?

Smurf1984 · 28/11/2021 12:23

I’ve got the spotlight oral care water flosser, charge it up roughly once a week, various attachments, very easy to use (keep your mouth open and over the sink though!)
Highly recommend as an alternative to disposable flossers

NightmareSlashDelightful · 28/11/2021 12:23

I've got one of the cheapo Amazon ones. It's... alright.

My dentist said to me that they're better than nothing, but relatively ineffective compared to flossing or an interdental brush.

I find flossing really difficult and unpleasant, so I do the water flosser thing. But it is definitely a compromise.

Mine doesn't go anywhere near the kitchen though! It lives on the bathroom shelf, next to the toothbrushes and mouthwash.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 28/11/2021 12:24

Oh yes and for technique, check YouTube. There's a sort of way you keep your mouth broadly closed, but let out the water every so often down the sink. But it's easier to see someone do it than describe in text!

peridito · 28/11/2021 13:53

Our bathroom which has no power point is on the same floor as our kitchen .I was assuming it would have to be plugged in somewhere to charge .The nearest points are the hall ,lounge ,kitchen .

Don't they need charging ?

Brilliant in every way. I charge mine in my bedroom and it lasts about ten days

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2021 13:56

I have a Waterpik, it charges anywhere, as it has a normal plug. I just take the Waterpik itself into the bathroom. I use it twice a day.

I also use floss and Tepe brushes before bed.

Floralnomad · 28/11/2021 14:02

I have a water pic , it’s excellent and definitely better than interdental brushes for me as I simply wouldn’t bother to use them . With regards to coordination my daughter who is the worlds least dexterous person manages to use one .

5zeds · 28/11/2021 14:03

The charging is literally plug in and leave it overnight every so often.

5zeds · 28/11/2021 14:03

My top tip is use warm water and get him to do it in the shower.

Roussette · 28/11/2021 14:04

I use mine all the time. A charge lasts at least 2 weeks with me. No, there isn't any mess, you just do it over the washbasin and let the water fall out your mouth, you don't keep your mouth closed!

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2021 14:06

Yes, don't use icy cold water, I use lukewarrm. You can add some mouthwash.
There's a knack to it but hard to describe. it's very easy to jetwash the whole bathroom the first time.

5zeds · 28/11/2021 14:11

I do it over the basin too but I can’t see how it would be as good with your mouth closed

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/11/2021 17:39

Mine must be a higher pressure, because I have to seal my lips over the waterpik or it goes everywhere as it comes out at a pressure where it splashes even when leaning right over the sink.
