Any ideas on what's wrong with my eye?

Since Friday it's been puffy and swollen and weeping constantly. It also feels really tired all of the time. Driving me mad! I've had a cold and feel rough anyway. So this is not helping! Any ideas on how to soothe it?

We have a Chemist bit in the local Tesco. Will that likely have a Pharmacist?

It's swollen half shut. I didn't realise how awful it looked until I just took a photo. Feel more sorry for myself now!

Until you get to the pharmacy boil and cool some water and bathe and use some cotton wool or d
Kitchen roll to bathe it. That can make quite a difference in itself. Wash hands first (and afterwards) and don't double dip your cotton wool.

I had this. It was a really aggressive form of conjunctivitis. I had to go to the hospital to have my eye scraped clear.

BerryJay · 28/11/2021 00:10

Yikes HerRoyalHappiness just reading that made me clench things I didn't know I could clench! Hope it wasn't as awful as it sounds.

It really wasn't that bad! It was like a film over my eye that had to be removed. It was gross but not painful, well, not as painful as the eye was anyway!

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 28/11/2021 00:13

Conjunctivitis? starfishmummy's advice is spot on.

Our Tesco has a chemist in the pharmacy - I think it's standard, so they should be able to advise you on a suitable treatment.

Your eye might have got cross-infected from your cold - easily done if you unthinkingly rub your eye after sneezing into your hand or similar.

If it was just swollen, with no discharge, I'd think a possible allergy.

If there is discharge, waking with sticky lids, irritation like there is sand in it, or itchy, it could be conjunctivitis. Its highly contagious- so wash your hands whenever you touch your eyes! See a pharmacist for some chloramphenicol.

I recommend the drops over the gel as its much easier to use and absorbs much quicker. No greasy stains on the pillow case!

Thanks @Hairyfriend My eye is just tearing constantly. Not really sandy/ irritated but feels very heavy, like it's hard work to keep it open. No sticky lids. Eye lids are very swollen and puffy. And I feel really ill generally.

I always find bathing my eye with milk on cotton wool helps my eyes when I have conjunctivitis
