Covid vaccine under 18 one kidney

I don't suppose anybody knows if a teenager with one kidney is OK to have the covid vaccine? I can't find a definitive answer online although, to me and what I've read, it appears to be fine...obviously I'm not a medical professional!

Nephew is due the vaccine, his mother hasn't (and won't) try to find out and father hasn't managed to speak to a Dr as works unsociable hours and unable to get through at the times he's been able to call. 119 say to ask your GP.

The simplest thing to do would be to make an appointment and then discuss it in full at the vaccination site. Ask to speak to the site clinical lead who will be able to answer all your questions - they should be able to answer far more comprehensively than GP.

My DP got his early because he only has one kidney so I assume so. He’s also eligible for booster despite being under 40

Huh, I have one kidney and I didn't get mine early! I had the AZ vaccine with no issues and am waiting to be called for my booster.

Nb It will possibly depend on why someone has 1 kidney / what their kidney function and general health is.

My mum had all her vaccines, she’s over 70 and has one kidney, so it’s not ruled out. And you’d assume a teenager would be less vulnerable than an older person.

MIL has one kidney and is vaccinated.

It is probably safer to have the vaccine with one kidney than to have Covid with one kidney...

@SockQueen

It is probably safer to have the vaccine with one kidney than to have Covid with one kidney...
This is almost certainly true.

But why does he have just the one kidney. Can you ring the renal unit which treated him and see if someone can advise you?
