Baby kicks

When should I feel baby kicks everyday? I can't seem to find any official guidance on this. Currently 17 weeks and felt prominent flutters in the morning for a few days but feeling nothing again. Is this normal?

You don't feel them everyday until well past week 24. Definitely normal not to feel things now.

I’m also 17 weeks with my third and some days I feel a few little kicks, sometimes I feel nothing for days. I think when they are so small it is easy for them to get into a different position where you can’t feel them. From what I remember they don’t really develop a regular pattern of movement until around 24 weeks or so.

Thank you @MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat. That is reassuring. I know we are not supposed to feel consistent movements from 28 weeks but I feel all the advice prior to this is vague even though nhs/Tommy's /rcog all advise to contact if we notice reduced movements prior to this. This is my third also but my second was stillborn tragically. This time around I'm so much more aware of every little movement in my body and naturally going to over think everything. I couldn't even confirm when my movements became consistent with my previous 2. All the best to you and your family in the coming months x

I've also had a stillbirth, so I can understand why you're thinking the way you are. I'm sorry for your loss, there's nothing like it. Does your hospital have a bereavement midwife at all? I'm not having anymore children but I know many people who have gone on to have another baby after a stillbirth and the bereavement midwives have been of an incredible support to them - offering check ups when ordinarily you wouldn't get them (at 17 weeks no one would worry / check you but after a stillbirth I know that at our hospital they have checked women for their mental wellbeing more than anything) and just being there to contact when you're feeling worried, scared etc. If there isn't a designated bereavement midwife in your hospital, you can still ask and see if there is any extra support available to you, and how you would access this.

@Olahaha2021 oh I’m so sorry to hear of your previous stillbirth Flowers I can certainly understand why you are extra aware of movements. Definitely have a talk with your midwife and hopefully they will be able to reassure you / give guidance on movements. I agree everything I’ve seen online is very vague. Wishing you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy.
