Are pound shop pregnancy tests accurate and how early?

Hi all,

Wasn't sure where to post but I just wanted to ask whether pound shop/ very cheap pregnancy tests are accurate from 3 weeks?

I've been asked to take a test prior to being able to get some vaccinations for work as I've been nauseous, but had hoped not to spend a fortune on one as it's very unlikely (albeit not impossible) that I would be pregnant. Thanks!

3 weeks after ovulation? I would say cheap ones are reliable.

3 weeks pregnant, ie 1 week after ovulation, I doubt they would be accurate.

They absolutely are. Used to work in sexual heath and recommended them all the time.

Break open a more expensive one with a plastic cover and it's exactly the same stick thing inside. You're paying for the brand name..

With regard to timing I think it's the same accuracy as a branded one.

Er.. tbh I'm not sure. It would be 3 weeks after sex whilst I think ovulating. Thanks joopy79

I only use the cheap tests and they are accurate.

Was just about to say this. I found out I was expecting ds when my friend bought a triple pack and jokingly told me to have a go. Hers and mine were the same as in the first red line appeared then the second line was not so strong. It was highly unlikely we were both pregnant so I thought I would ask the pharmacist when I went to the chemist. She saw it and confirmed it was positive. I said it might be wrong as it was cheap and she said it was the exact same one in the plastic cased ones. When I got home I rang my friend and told her it was a positive. She gave birth exactly a month after me Grin

Honestly OP, the cheap ones are fine. I bought a rake of them from ebay when me and my wife were trying to conceive dd. Obviously stopped using them when I became pregnant. Now it's her turn to conceive our second child (fingers crossed) she is using the rest. We still have at least 20 left. They cost £10 for 50 in 2018.

This is really great to know, thanks everyone! Tbh I hadn't thought much about it (no kids yet) and didn't realise the mechanism was all the same, you just pay more for a brand name! I shall get myself down to poundland.

Fingers crossed punchedtit

They worked fine for me. The children are downstairs so the tests were definitely correct!!
