Cough up phlegm?

Hello!

I was just trying to work out if "coughing up phlegm" is a stage lots of people have after a common cold or if it is because I have asthma.

I feel rubbish! Is it because it "has gone to my chest" (and by that do people mean a chest infection?)

Is a chest infection the same as bronchitis (sounds more serious than "gone to my chest.")

Ive had a break from all this with covid and less colds and now just curious who it affects. I remember people at work with colds/sniffles but not this hacking cough!

I cough up a lot of phlegm but it's from my sinuses so runs down the back of my throat. I very rarely cough up anything from my lungs.

Bleurg sinus things are horrible too aren't they.

This is lungs and I was thinking us it because I have asthma a cold turns into a chest infection. And I assume I can say I have a chest infection now?

As its not uncommon for me after a cold and dr google says bronchitis can be treated at home I dont really know if this is something everyone gets each year or everyone with asthma or if I ought to be worried. Also at what point people stay in bed. I really do want to stay in bed.

Google is failing me! I want to get terminology rightm

I cough up phlegm throughout the day every single day because I now have bronchiectasis (permanently scarred and inflamed lungs). The phlegm situation definitely is worse though when I have a virus on top and I am high risk for chest infections so have to keep a careful eye and submit sputum samples to check for bacterial infections as they can take hold horribly sometimes.

Respiratory physio gave me chest exercises to help evict the sputum which I'd recommend to make sure you are clearing your phlegm and don't end up with a secondary infections. Google autogenic drainage and have a go - various NHS videos on YouTube going through the technique. NHS Brompton I think had a nice video.

So sorry you have to deal with this all the time :( I feel like my chest is squished and desperate to feel relief. It must be really tough having that permanently.

Do you find it socially tricky too (needing to properly cough?)

I cant work out if "normal" people do this or not.

Thankyou so much for the suggestion. I will definitely look. I get scared like this as I hated it as a kid but it does put it in perspective that for me its temporary. Flowers
