Advent calendar filler ideas

Herecomesthesun70 · 25/11/2021 23:22

Bought a diy advent calendar last year for DD 10. Lots of different shapes and sizes drawers. I put in bits of cosmetics she likes playing with and nice chocs, bath bombs but I can't think of anything this year. She doesn't Need any more of that stuff. Didn't think this through at all

I'd say try to go for stuff she uses. Mini gel pens, chocolates, tea bags (?), lip balm, hand cream or whatever. Or buy one and empty it into hers.

Chocolate coins

Pound coins

Hair bobbles.

Percy pigs

Nail varnish

Lib balm

Think multi packs that you can split up.

We have one. Lindt chocolate Santa's, socks, lip balm, rubbers, stickers and hair clips/bands.

lucysmam · 26/11/2021 07:57

Managed to press post when my phone rang Blush

The rest will be filled with chocolate Christmas puddings (79p ish for a net thing of them in Home Bargains). They have popping candy in & went down well last year.

I collect bits through the year so I'm not panicking at this time of year...I just need to sit and wrap, before next Tuesday evening!

Herecomesthesun70 · 26/11/2021 16:30

Great thank you. Some good ideas here
She thinks she's 15 so is a huge pain to buy for.

Ventured into town today and got some nike socks she wants and charms for her bracelet. Few make up bits and some ferrero chocs

Sadly mine are now past the Advent Calendar stage but when I did make ones up a few years back I included some little vouchers in as well as the usual treats.

I included vouchers for trips to the cinema, takeaway night, bowling alley trip etc. You could do something similar but personalise it with things your own kids will enjoy doing and let them decide when they wish to use them up.

toomuchlaundry · 26/11/2021 16:57

I have split a jigsaw puzzle across an advent calendar. Chosen a mini puzzle with about 100 pieces, and only give the picture on the 24th!

Herecomesthesun70 · 27/11/2021 09:33

Vouchers is a good idea too.
I like the jigsaw idea but she's a bit over those now.

Panto day today so no time for calendar shopping now.

I can me still filling it as the days go on Grin

flying tiger has lots of lovely mini stationery

lucysmam · 27/11/2021 14:34

We've just got in from town & nipped into Primark for school tights, and a wander. They had loads of packs of pens, highlighters, giant paper clips, stickers & other stationery bits and bobs for 80p each. They'd make good calendar/stocking fillers.

Dd2 was eyeing up the Santa pens in The Works, that I already bought 🙄

Herecomesthesun70 · 27/11/2021 23:13

I've got more stationary than WHSmith here already.
Last year she had a thing for bath bombs. There's enough here for her to have a bath every night til she's 18 and not run out
I'm going to count how many bits I've got tomorrow when she's out

I've just made ours. They are mostly filled with quirky (American?) sweets - you can get those in specialist sweet shops and sometimes TK Maxx. There is also a mini elf / tree decoration, a pair of Christmas socks, scrunchies, chocolate and tickets for the panto.

Saz12 · 28/11/2021 00:28

Mine is younger, but “tickets” for treats (eg you get to choose dinner, or film night, or whatever). I do a family advent calendar though, which means need far fewer ideas. Nice for everyone to come up with ideas, DC really enjoy it.

DinosApple · 28/11/2021 07:21

I've just filled ours for my DDs who are 11 & 12.
Luckily it's only got small boxes so just room for a sweet each. I've put in Santa, snowmen and Christmas pudding shaped chocolates from home bargains.
My DM has sent them traditional picture calendars too.

Bloodybridget · 28/11/2021 07:36

I did one for DGD a few years ago where I wrote clues for finding something in the house, and dotted them through the calendar along with a chocolate or some other tiny thing; she got the last clue on 24th. Have also written jokes and rolled into little scrolls tied with sparkly thread. But your DD might be too old for that.

user1471505356 · 28/11/2021 09:00

This sounds expensive.

pompomsgalore · 28/11/2021 09:56

@Bloodybridget Jokes is a wonderful idea thank you! My dd is just coming into the age where simple jokes are hilarious! I'm going to do this

Herecomesthesun70 · 28/11/2021 22:50

Calendar is done did half the days with gifts and half with those kinder hippos or ferrero roche
