How to get rid of piles

Sorry if this is a bit tmi, but im fed up, im uncomfortable and it doesnt seem to he getting any better.

Ive had it for months now, sometimes flares up worse than others but doesnt seem to be going away or getting better at all.

Fed up of the discomfort/itchyness, and then the resulting pain and discomfort when I scratch with toilet paper when wiping, which then results in the whole area being sore and raw. I have been using anusol but it doesnt really seem to be helping at all. Maybe relieves the itch a bit but not for long.

How do i get rid of it?? Totally fed up and embarrassed by this problem that doesnt seem to be going away.

I had an absolutely HUGE one lately, brought on by a combination of pregnancy and a tummy bug. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the size of a large strawberry.

I found long soaks in the bath helped and it did actually go back in by itself. However if yours hasn't done that and it's causing you pain and discomfort then you will probably need to speak to a GP. They can prescribe stronger creams and if they don't work you might need to think about banding or surgical removal. Sounds scary but I think it's quite straightforward. Good Iuck.

Its not even that big, its the itch that drives me insane.

How long do they generally take to go away on their own? Its not been constant, like it'll feel better for a few weeks and ill forget about it, then i might have slight constipation and it suddenly appears again.

I always get constipated before my period so hard to avoid the cycle unfortunately.

Anusol didn't give me any lasting relief. Germaloids seems to sooth longer.

I had nasty flare up a few months ago, and my GP prescribed a cream and pessary which worked brilliantly, but they still come back!

Rupertpenrysmistress · 24/11/2021 21:46

Suppositories might work the anusol ones otherwise, my GP gave me GTN gel which shrinks by reducing the blood vessels that was great. Otherwise make sure you are not constipated otherwise they never have a chance to shrink so lactulose may help here. It will go away. What is your diet like?

The itch is caused by salts in the faeces that dry on the haemerrhoids. If you can bath or shower or even use a make up type wipe after having bowels opened the itch should resolve. I walk 3 miles every morning and I make sure I get my routine right because having the itch whilst walking is murder.

Please ask your GP to do a referral to the colorectal team at your local hospital they can band haemoroids really easily and if severe surgically remove - have a look at this information booklet

I have found sudocreme effective

tigger1001 · 24/11/2021 21:56

I've used witch Hazel cream with zinc oxide. Nothing else soothed it like that has.

FrDamo · 24/11/2021 22:06

Have you considered you might have lichen sclerosus affecting the anal area? That can be an intensive itch.

Throughabushbackwards · 24/11/2021 22:06

Also use sudocrem at the first sign, works really well to heal the area.

Please ask your Dr for help, you shouldn’t have to be in so much discomfort. If your dr has E-consult, (look on their website) you won’t even have to speak to them, you fill in the form and for piles they’ll just prescription you something, and email you let you know.
