New long commute - how will it work?

I have 3 DCs age 9-13 and a DH who works shifts and has a 1 hour commute.
My job looks set to change from a 10 min commute, part time in a school, to proper ft work with a 1-1.5 hour commute. Just looking for reassurance from others that this could work? Finding it difficult to picture - I’ve been in the same job for 10 years!

After school club and your husbands shifts working out. Do his shifts rotate a lot or are they very predictable.with the childcare aspect.

With the general running of the house the kids are getting older so will have to do more chores assuming your DH is decent at chore sharing.

Actual commute time over a long period of time will be terrible compared to current but is it driving or public transport or both?

Getting a cleaner would be the best thing you could do or a parents help. They would look after kids after school plus do stuff like hang a load of laundry up and peel your veg for dinner.

DH shifts are subject to change at very short notice so I tend to assume that whatever shift he’s on he’s just not around that day! He’s brilliant at doing family/household stuff - in fact probably contributes more time to that than I do.

I love the idea of a parent help… we don’t have space for an au pair but you’ve got me thinking about a friend of mine years ago who used to have someone to help out most days after school with her DC.
