I feel like we are lacking plants inside our house. I'm not sure why, when our garden is full of pretty plants all year round (courtesy of DH!). I'm hopeless with plants, I've managed to kill a cactus before 😬 I have an Orchid that I've had for about a year and it's not dead yet

I'd really like something else inside but I'm not sure what!

These guys have an unkillable section.

Spider plant. Requires absolutely no care at all, and produces babies. What's not to like? I have about a billion.

Spider plants are easy and you can grow more from the babies. Sansevira (possibly not the correct spelling) are foolproof. My DS has has one in his flat for 2 years and he could kill a plastic plant.

BettyfromBristol · 23/11/2021 13:06

has had 🙄

Kokedamas. Almost any plant in a moss ball. You can hang them or pop them in a cute saucer. The moss ball keeps them watered for ages.

Snake plants are great as are monstera

Iamnotamermaid · 23/11/2021 13:09

Catcus plants - my two are still living and growing despite the odds.

Treaclepiepastry · 23/11/2021 13:10

Spider
Yucca
Cheese plants
Dragon tree
aspidistra So beloved of Dark, Smokey Victorian parlours as you couldn’t kill it.

BlueChampagne · 23/11/2021 13:37

Get a crocheted one!

Justbetweenus · 23/11/2021 13:43

Another vote for mother-in-law’s-tongue (sanseveria). Architectural, don’t mind shadier spots, barely need watering for half the year.

charabanctrip · 23/11/2021 13:57

I love a nice spider plant. They're really easy and have stalks which produce babies. I even potted a baby up for ds1 when he left home.

ponkydonkey · 23/11/2021 14:02

Money trees are so easy to look after.... sunny spot, don't need a lot of water either!
Peace lilies for shadier areas are great too

MrsVeryTired · 23/11/2021 14:06

Spider plant (but don't like them really)

Ficus are nice and have lovely leaves, quite easy to look after.

ShinySquirrel · 23/11/2021 14:07

All those mentioned, plus Christmas cacti.

I misplaced one in a house move once. Thought it must have got left or thrown away by mistake. Nope, I found it over a year later hidden behind a box on a shelf. It had had no water or light that whole time and it was still alive. Slightly wrinkled, but otherwise fine. It perked up after a drink.

I still have it. I call it my zombie cactus.

butteriesplease · 23/11/2021 14:23

spider plants are good. B&Q sell some nice house plants which last quite well and are not over priced - pick what you like.

I see folk recommending Mother in law's tongue - I HATE spiky plants, as I feel they look vicious - ! Likewise, I hate Peace Lilies. They lurk.

I like ones which gently drape, if you have a mantlepiece or shelf to pop them on.

Also, christmas cactus (it's a succulent not a true cactus) - once they get established, they will go on and on. I have one from my mum & dad which is over 50 years old. It's huge and amazing! however, do not get a real cactus - why would you want a plant which can hurt you?? never understood it.

Water them from underneath if you can (ie into the saucer, rather than in the soil) as that helps prevent them rotting.

Champagneforeveryone · 23/11/2021 14:36

We have orchids that have recently moved to the bathroom windowsill. The combination of the light and the steam seems to remind them of balmier conditions and they are all flourishing Smile

Mother in-laws tongue

curiouscatgotkilled · 23/11/2021 14:45

Peace Lily's are lovely and very easy, they droop a bit, water them and they perk up. And you get pretty white flowers every now and again.

mirabelle04 · 23/11/2021 14:45

I love plants but I forget to care for them and my OH seems to actively kill them whatever he tries to do.

My mom gave me a cutting of a pothos plant, told me to put it in a self watering pot and just keep the water reserve filled. That thing has turned into an actual jungle. Litterally the lowest effort to lush ratio I've ever seen.

Weepingwillows12 · 23/11/2021 14:46

Where would you like the plant to be? In a dark corridor, on a sunny south facing window ledge etc? Are you bad at remembering to water regularly?

NanTheWiser · 23/11/2021 16:04

Also, christmas cactus (it's a succulent not a true cactus), sorry, but it IS a true cactus! (Even if it doesn’t look like it). Plenty of suggestions, OP, so I won’t add to them.

TheDoctorDances · 23/11/2021 16:21

I bought a plant from this website earlier in the year. The owner Tesni is really helpful if you need advice and you’d be supporting a small business.
