Have you got an Electric Blanket?

crochetmonkey74 · 23/11/2021 11:14

I want one but I think i am a bit nervous as the last time I had one it was as a kid in the 80s and I remember being certain I was getting electrocuted at any moment - are they good?

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of stock, but if you’ve landed here looking for electric blankets, we’ve recently updated our best electric blanket page with loads of great options that have been tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Smile

@crosbystillsandmash

I have! Bloody love it! Apart from having my dc, it's the best decision I've ever made Grin
Yep!
Bellabelloo · 23/11/2021 21:50

Yup! Love mine too!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/11/2021 21:51

We have one but now the beds in a room with 3 internal walls it’s on the spare bed that I sleep in sometimes. That room has 3 external walls and gets colder.

Yes, indeed

Another who loves my electric blanket almost as much as much as my kids. Today I got an electric throw for the sofa, and am snuggled underneath it now watching I'm A Celeb. It is BLISS. Do it, OP. You won't regret it.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 23/11/2021 22:12

@Thursa

No. Many years ago a neighbour got up one morning to find her son had been electrocuted during the night. I’d never have one.
Oh God, poor woman, that's made me feel quite sick
NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 23/11/2021 22:15

I like the idea of getting into a warm bed, but the reality is I'm too warm in 5 minutes, probably would be fine if I didn't put the heating on at all maybe, but then the rest of the house would be cold...

HeyupitsChristmas · 23/11/2021 22:23

I love mine, I wouldn't be without it.

We don't have the radiators on in our bedroom and we have a window open as we like a cool room but a cozy bed.

Theywalkamongstus · 23/11/2021 22:26

@Frenchfancy

Are they comfortable to sleep on? Can you feel the wires? I've been wanting one for ages but I keep hesitating.
Not comfy and yes can feel the wires. I never use mine any more though. I'm a menopausal woman and can think of nothing worse than a warm bed!
RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 23/11/2021 22:27

Weve just bought some, just to warm the bed up, we switch it off before we get in…just in case

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 23/11/2021 22:28

Oooo

Comfy to sleep on, I can’t feel the wires but when the zip was at my feet I could feel that

Charlieandlola · 23/11/2021 22:28

Yep ! Got it last winter and Can’t work out how I managed without it . Mine has 2 zones - main body and then feet only . I generally only use the feet only section and leave it in low for my cat !

MyAnacondaMight · 23/11/2021 22:35

I have a dual control, dual zone heated mattress cover. It goes on top of the mattress topper, and is super comfortable. The foot warmer section stays on all night for the cat, this time of year.

Its life changing - I wouldn’t be without it.

Dreamstate · 23/11/2021 22:40

I have a dreamland electric throw which is keeping me warm during the day and evening. Have only out heating on once for one hour as it was too cold at that point.

Costs 4p ah hour to run.

I use it to heat my bed but switch it off and unplug it before bed.

I'm like others in that im cautious about the risks regardless of how safe they say they are.

So I never leave it on unsupervised for long time, dont use it in bed all night.

DinosApple · 23/11/2021 22:40

I've had one since I was about 12 (90s), wouldn't be without it. See also teddy bear fleece duvet covers.

AnOldCynic · 23/11/2021 22:43

I have one connected to a smart plug.. Alexa turns it on for me 😊

TheYearOfSmallThings · 23/11/2021 22:53

Are they comfortable to sleep on? Can you feel the wires?

I find mine completely comfortable, and I have never felt the wires.

I'm going to switch it on right now.

MintyCedric · 23/11/2021 22:57

I love mine...have just put it back on and added a smart plug for added convenience.

I like my bedroom on the cool side so love getting into a warm bed and sleep better that way.

earsup · 23/11/2021 23:01

Fab...its under mattress topper so about 30 mins to get really warm....had one for years...love it...grew up in a freezing house so a luxury is to be warm now.

SchoolForScoundrels · 23/11/2021 23:06

I've just realised that mine had been on for three days solid as I forgot to switch it off.

It's lovely to get into a warm bed

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 23/11/2021 23:08

Thanks to this thread I've just ordered one. Been meaning to for ages.

Nat6999 · 24/11/2021 00:16

I have a king-size electric throw on my sofa, it is big enough to sit or lay on & still get covered up, bliss in my draughty lounge in winter.

1forAll74 · 24/11/2021 02:28

I have an electric blanket, and love it. I am an oldie, live in a very old cottage, with crap windows, no double glazing or anything.. I just switched it on for the first time this year. came in the bedroom a bit later, and my three cats are all sprawled out on the now warm bed, they didn't even see me switch the blanket on, but they always veer towards anything that's warm.
