Which of these shoes will provide me with a grip if the roads get icy

I need to get some new shoes and there's some shoes on offer under black Friday deals.

I don't drive. I need to get a show that will provide me with a grip in case the roads get icy.

I am looking at some of these shoes online. Which of these soles do you think will provide me with a grip?

cant't really tell, my eyes are awful.

they both look grippy to me though, the ones with white on look less front-to-back rolly, so might be the better choice (so your foot won;t tend to go onto toes and perhaps slip backwards)

Savoretti · 22/11/2021 21:35

I’m not sure either would be great on ice.
Could you find some specifically for that purpose? Or get the spike things that go on to the soles.

AmberRoseGold · 22/11/2021 21:37

Yes if ice consider buying Yak Trax which are metal exoskeletons for shoes to give good grip on ice.

The second ones are a bit better obviously. But like pp said, what you need are those things that go over the shoes that are like a tame version of crampons.
Also learn to walk on ice. It's a great deal to do with how you balance your body. Find a friend who is good at it and copy the way they hold their body and keep their legs 'loose' (hard to explain).

I got myself some Yak Tracks, they are absolutely amazing on ice and compacted snow. I can walk normally when everyone else is sliding about or ending up on their backside. They fit easily over normal shoes/boots and you just remove them when you get inside. They are my absolute favourite winter purchase.

NannyR · 23/11/2021 14:13

Another vote for yaktrax, they are amazing for walking on ice and go over any shoes you already have to make them super grippy.

fellrunner85 · 23/11/2021 14:16

Neither of those!
Another vote for yaktrax, or else grippy fell running shoes.

NotMyCat · 23/11/2021 14:16

Agree with yaktrax. The men at work all laughed and then fell over as I smugly stomped past on the ice

BungleandGeorge · 23/11/2021 14:16

Neither look that great for grip to me. Get some snow boots or walking shoes or over shoes as suggested

Jubilate · 23/11/2021 14:17

Another for the spiky over shoe things. They are revolutionary.

TiredMummyZZZ · 23/11/2021 14:23

I have DM Chelsea boots and they’re great when it’s icy.

They’re not cheap but they’re probably be on a Black Friday deal with another retailer.

stalkersaga · 23/11/2021 14:26

I'm with PP - neither look very good, so buy the ones you like and buy some Yak Trax.

emmathedilemma · 23/11/2021 14:27

Another vote for yaktrax! I ran 14 miles in them on frozen compacted snow last winter and managed to stay upright.

Another vote for Yaktrax from me.
I've just this week bought DH a new pair to go in Xmas stocking but they're currently on sale at Blacks, for about £13 but with an extra 15% off using code BF15

MrsDThomas · 23/11/2021 16:00

I use yaks. Cant do without them in snow
