Anyone else had to let a crap cleaner go lately?

I seem to have zero luck with cleaners.

They either don't turn up, turn up on completely different days and times to that arranged, or are crap to the extent that they just surface clean/wipe things instead of actual cleaning and mopping.

Do other peoples cleaners actually move bath mats/toasters etc and clean under them, or just around things like mine did?

One of mine also broke a plant pot, cat bowl, and picture frame in the space of a month too.

Oh you do seem to have had bad luck.

A month or so ago I acquired my first ever cleaner, he is twenty-two and cleans with such energy and enthusiasm, moves everything on surfaces. He's amazing and I have clearly been very lucky!

So many people have decided to try cleaning as a profession recently. They seem to think it will be stress free and easy money. None of the people I know that have started cleaning have considered the actual hard physical work involved and I think plenty of them will get a shock!

I just got a new cleaner and fired her immediately when I happened to see her cleaning the toilet with a cloth and then going on to wipe the cloth around the sink, taps and bath 🤮. There's just no excuse for that.

Oh no did she have anything to say for herself?!

Was it Miranda Hart from Not Going Out?

I thought it would be a given that they'd move the kettle/toaster/cat bowl, not just wipe around them and leave crumbs underneath.

And things like the toilet, the recent one put bleach down it but didn't actually clean the bowl or under the toilet seat.

I was a bit shocked actually! I can do a half arsed job all by myself, if I'm paying someone I'd like a decent job done!

I have given up with cleaners. I had a fabulous one when I lived in London more than a decade ago and since then I have had 8 (yes 8!!!) different clearers and they were all rubbish.

Hoppinggreen · 22/11/2021 19:54

I’ve had some crap ones over the years so did without for years.
I now have a new one that I bumped into while she was cleaning at a friends house who she has been working for for over 5 years. She had just lost a client so agreed to do us too and although she’s only been twice she is fab
Fingers crossed we might have got a good un this time

trumpisagit · 22/11/2021 19:55

Well I would agree, but my elderly Dad specifically bans the cleaner from touching ornaments, paperwork, or furniture.
So basically they can only clean in patches.

Screwcorona · 22/11/2021 19:55

I uses to be a cleaner, and a lot of my clients had this gripe of it bring hard to find good cleaners. I think like a pp said people go into it thinking its easy money and don't realise ots actually very hard work if you do it properly

EachandEveryone · 22/11/2021 19:59

Im the same I dont know whats going on. £13.50 an hour is not bad in hand. Ive finally found one who enjoys what shes doing and shes just told me shes going back to Brazil for two months. I hope she comes back.

Fadette · 22/11/2021 20:21

When I pulled her up on it she said oh that's fine I'll just use a new cloth. But if your standards are that low or have such a poor understanding of basic hygiene I'm not going to pay for you to clean my house! I can't stop thinking about what if I didn't happen to see what she was doing?! Eek.

Notcontent · 22/11/2021 20:25

I currently don’t have one even though it would be hugely helpful to me, as i found my last cleaner very stressful. She clearly didn’t want to be cleaning (who does?) and did a very perfunctory job. I found I started dreading her coming and yet I was paying for it!
