Co Op soft plastic recycling

Our local co op have introduced a special bin in store for soft plastics to be recycled.

I filled a carrier bag in a week of stuff to go in which would have gone into landfill normally!

There's a link here about it:

It's great, Tesco do it as well. It's surprised me how much we create in a short space of time!

I was so pleased to see this too, amazed at how much soft plastic we have. Don’t tend to go in big supermarkets who I think have this but often pop in for a few bits.

TheFlis12345 · 22/11/2021 17:12

I have been horrified by how much soft plastic we are collecting for this so are actively looking for ways to reduce as much as possible. It’s been a total eye opener and other than tissues, barely anything goes in our rubbish bin now.

DroopyClematis · 22/11/2021 20:49

We were staggered at just how much we collected in the first few days.
Just goes to show.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 22/11/2021 20:52

I came on to say Tesco do it as well. I hope they keep it up. My black bin is getting emptier and emptier every week.

DeathMetalMum · 22/11/2021 20:53

Sane here, I have been using the collection at Tesco for a few weeks and the amount we collect is quite a lot.

DeathMetalMum · 22/11/2021 20:54

I also noticed the collection trolley they use was full this week so it's very popular.

ChimChimeny · 22/11/2021 21:02

Once we get a compost bin our rubbish going to landfill will be minimal I hope.

I'm glad others are aware & doing it too

Does anyone know if you can put lego bags in here? The ones that come inside the box with the pieces in? DD has just built a big set and the amount of bags is unreal.

I would think so, the way I've read it described is any plastic which wouldn't normally be recycled & can be scrunched flat/small.

That's a great shout as well, we've had Lego sets which weren't even that big with 3/4/5 bags

I've been doing this for a few months now. Selected Sainsbury's stored also collect them as well:

I recently bought this plastic recycling bin to store my plastics until I take it to the recycling (yes, I am aware of the irony)
