Alone in hotel room

Is there a legal age you can leave DC in a hotel room alone? This would be one very sensible 12 year old left from 7-10pm. He has a phone and could obviously go to hotel reception if there was a problem. Or maybe the hotel wouldn’t let him be there alone? I would be a 10 minute walk away.
I wouldn’t leave him in the evening at home although he’s used to being alone in the day for an hour or two. I can’t work out whether it’s ok or not!

I think the hotel would probably have their own policy on this. Legally if you were at home it would be fine.

Why wouldn't you leave him alone at home at that age?
He'd be fine, but probably best not to mention it to the hotel, as they'll probably have a no under 18s policy or something.

I suppose I would leave him at home alone but he has a younger sibling so it’s never an option.

How would the hotel even know?

Sounds fine to me there are sensible adults at reception and in the rare event he needs assistance he can ring you or reception. Let him watch a film and chill out (if kids still chill out these days)

Ok, glad it’s not a definite no. Thanks all.

The hotel may have a rule
We are going away with the dc 12 and 16 for a night at the end of December
We have booked 2 rooms and on the booking it says that 1 adult must stay in each room
I know you are not leaving your child overnight but that suggests that the hotel may have a rule against it
