Christmas morning traditions?

DF(fiance) and I are finally spending Christmas morning together just us this year, with our dog. I was wondering if anyone has fun morning traditions they'd like to share? I would love to hear some that aren't centred around having young children Halo

parkrun

SleepingStandingUp · 22/11/2021 12:43

Keep the curtains closed, keep the dog out, put on all the Christmas lights and have sex under the tree

I love this, not sure I can fit under our tree but next to it maybe! Grin

Parkrun here as well; or a similar 5km run with friends if it isn’t on. Trifle for breakfast (because DP is American and only learned what trifle is relatively recently when my mum made it for Christmas lunch and now associates it with Christmas), Harvey’s Bristol Cream sherry in the garden with our neighbours around the deep fat turkey fryer as it heats up (see above American DP) and a multi-person Zoom call to friends in different time zones where people just log in as and when they wake up or feel like joining.

Just need your head under it so when you look up its like you're under trees 😂😂😂

Ah lovely. We aren't runners, might need to park the parkrun idea for next year! My family also live across the world but our Zoom will be in the PM Smile

Ooh you've just upped the game with the post parkrun trifle @ComtesseDeSpair! Although we did have sherry and pastries one year :)
You're welcome to walk and most events allow dogs if it will walk nicely on a lead. There's always a tail walker so even if you're at the back you'll have company.

I remember reading that someone said they did some Christmassy muffins or similar for breakfast, so the house smells like Christmas. Or maybe get mulled wine going in a pan?

ColinTheKoala · 22/11/2021 17:30

You don't have to run at parkrun, you can walk.

MeatyRvita · 22/11/2021 17:39

Bacon (&/or sausage) sandwiches and Buck’s Fizz first thing
Go for a long walk (forest or seaside etc) and could always take coffee or hot chocolate with you.
Home - pjs on, crap films and delicious food and drink👌
Sounds fab to me!

gogohm · 22/11/2021 17:42

@SleepingStandingUp Sounds a great tradition Grin. Alas in our case the "kids" are all gone from university!

Ours is champagne smoked salmon bagels and for extra luxury I bought caviar today! We are decamping to my parents this year though but will bring all the extras as mum is more of a poached eggs and orange juice sort of breakfast person.

DriftingBlue · 22/11/2021 17:42

Without kids, it’s nice to just sleep in.
Breakfast casserole to make it special, but easy. Just prep the night before and pop it in the oven in the morning.
Spend the morning lounging in festive pajamas

If you eventually add kids, 2 and 3 still work, you just lose the sleeping in part.

AuntieMarys · 22/11/2021 17:43

5-6 mile walk in great countryside and a swift one at the pub before home to shower/ change to eat out at 3

HaroldSteptoesHorse · 22/11/2021 17:43

Breakfast in bed followed by loads of booze and chocolate and sex

NCnotmyusualone · 22/11/2021 17:46

Lie in, watching it’s a wonderful life. Then a nice walk, followed by smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with Buck’s Fizz for brunch.

MrsDThomas · 22/11/2021 20:47

I go for a run, drink prosecco, and then enjoy the day,

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 22/11/2021 20:51

We do have a child but he’s 12 now and an only child who’s a mini adult and an 8 month old puppy.

We’ll have a bit of a lie in as neither DS or puppy are early risers.
We’ll have presents first thing and I’ve bought the puppy about 5 presents which I’ll wrap and let him unwrap them one by one over the course of the day to keep him occupied.
We’ll go for a nice long dog walk in the middle of the day down onto the marsh as you can’t go on it again from Boxing Day til Easter due to lambing.
We’ll have smoked salmon and avocado in soda bread (how very millennial 😂) for breakfast and left overs from our Christmas Eve buffet. We always have Christmas dinner at night as I love it when I nip on Facebook while the dinner cooks and everyone is announcing that it’s all over about 5pm but we still have something to look forward to.
