Booking flights help

I've been looking at visiting my brother out in Canada (I'm in UK); haven't seen him for a few years with covid / year prior was saving up to go.

In the space of 2 days the flight price has increased for my dates by circa £450 (ie doubled) - does anyone know if this is a pre black Friday type thing and will they go back down a bit for black friday deals?

It's the difference between getting to see my brother and not 🙁 I've looked flexible dates, flying from/to different airports but it's not made a difference.

Many thanks

Have you looked at Air Transat? Who I fly if I need to go home cheap.

DazedandConcerned · 21/11/2021 16:08

Oh or WestJet.

(I’m mumbling about a lack of edit button)

Look at flying via Ireland. Massive saving on air passenger duty. You'll probably need to book separate tickets rather than have them on the same itinerary.

Also clear your cookies oe use a different device that you're not logged in to. Flights will go up if they know you keep checking prices.

Have you looked on Skyscanner, it’s the quickest way to find the best deals? Prices have increased recently as demand for transatlantic has increased.

Search in incognito mode if you are using Chrome,
or clear cookies each time you look. I think which? Or Martin Lewis looked at the cheapest time to book flights but I'm not sure any of the old rules apply these days. I think, it was about 2-3 months in advance fwiw.

Thanks everyone will give all the above a go! Really hopeful I can get over to see him

How have got on? Another way to get there more cheaply than flying direct could be to fly from Dublin to a US airport then travel into Canada. This works for Vancouver better than Toronto. Fly Dublin to Seattle, use light rail to get to downtown Seattle and take the Amtrak to Vancouver - several trains a day and not very expensive.

I've been laughing away to myself Sinc ei started this thread.

Got my flights booked! And then omicron news broke 😂

Hey ho if I have to rebook later in the year then I have to rebook. Travel might still be OK but worried if hotel quarantine gets put back in place as that's a fair whack of money.

It's been nearly four years since I've seen my brother. A combo of his work pattern / me saving up to go and then covid.

Ah such is life! 😂
