Tried:
Asor Nasal Spray
Magnetic Clips
Mouth Guard
Nasal Strips

All reviews were great but they didn't work.

Not tried:
Chin Strap
Anti Snore Pillow

It's exhausting not being able to sleep in my own bed.

Can anyone recommend anything please x

It's just awful. I'm so tired during the day and I have no energy. Although my vitamin d is very low so it could be that.

It's so difficult trying to get a gp appointment.

I was referred to the local sleep clinic and now use a cpap machine, all done without attending a clinic in person, just phone contact because of the pandemic. The sleep monitor and machine were delivered and collected by the hospital, then the diagnosis was phone and letter. The main thing to say to the gp is that the lack of sleep causes you difficulties in daily life. I was told not to drive until I got going with the machine.

A phone appt or econsult should do it. It's worth mentioning the daytime tiredness to your GP. This combined with the snoring should get you referred to the sleep clinic.

Sleep clinic is quite high tech these days. They just lend you a monitor to wear overnight, then they download the data and you have a follow up appointment. It's worth going through the NHS. The machines are expensive but also the masks are about £100 and don't last all that long. Masks are very trial and error, but covid meant I couldn't try any at all. I ended up having to buy my own, so it's just as well I didn't also have to fork out for tubing and machine.

Ironically we still sleep separately because DH snores Grin.

There’s something called an IQoro that’s supposed to help:

Or you could try some exercises:

OMG... you can buy a CPAP machine? Really?
You can get a private sleep test and then buy a cpap machine with the private prescription, you can't get it without that.
We got a private at home test and then a cpap machine for dh because of NHS wait times, but you need a doctors note still.

I've just done a sleep study, because my snoring has got worse, and sometimes it wakes me. I've gone from sleeping through, to waking two or three times a night.
I was referred by my GP and I was surprised how quickly I got a hospital (phone) appointment, and just a few weeks later I got the equipment for the sleep study.

Basically there are two gadgets held in place by soft elastic straps, one on your chest and one on your abdomen. Then there's an oximeter attached to your finger, and two little plastic nasal canulas kept in place by a band around your head/ears. Obviously you wear these all night. Next morning you fill in a questionnaire about your sleep, and return the equipment to the hospital so they can download the data from the gadgets.

I'm now waiting for my results. The consultant thought it unlikely that it's sleep apnoea given my lack of risk factors. If the sleep study confirms that, he's going to pass me on to ENT.

We bought a sleep pillow and it helped DHs snoring a lot. It's not gone, but it's soooo much better. His snoring loudness has gone from a 10 to a 5.

Do you have a link?

I have had the silent night snore pillow in my Argos shopping bag for months. I take it out every time I buy something as I'm unsure whether it will work.

The reviews for the items in my OP were mostly great but didn't work for me so I don't want to waste even more money.

I have a small jaw also alongside weight gain meant I made the house shake on a night. I spoke to gp who said it wasn’t sleep apnea as I wasn’t falling asleep through the day. Tried everything and nothing worked so I went to the dentist and went through the options for a mandibular device. I went with the sleep well device and my dentist took moulds and had it made for me. It cost £400 but by god it’s the best money I have ever spent. I now don’t make a peep when I’m asleep. It works by keeping the lower jaw forward so it keeps your airway open.

Louise5754 · 21/11/2021 15:10

@crazymare20 Hi. I know these are cheaper at £20 but I've tried two types of these from Amazon. Do the ones you have fitted do anything different?

OP posts:
crazymare20 · 21/11/2021 15:40

Yes the one I have has like a hook (really hard to explain) which hooks onto the second piece to keep the jaw from moving backwards and narrowing your airway and because it’s fitted it’s more comfortable than a standard one you buy over the internet,

AliceMcK · 21/11/2021 21:47

@Louise5754 refer you to the sleep clinic. I had 3 sleep studies done. The first inconclusive, 2nd said something was going in but not sleep apnea. I moved just after that and went to a different sleep clinic that ran a full in-depth sleep study where you spend the night in hospital and the monitor you with wires pretty much glued all over your head, chest & legs. Within weeks of this I was hooked up with a machine, my DH loves it haha

anotherwinkywinkybumbum · 22/11/2021 07:03

Please, please go to GP. If it is sleep apnea, a cpap will not only change your sleep life but will also save your life. My partner is so much better now he has a machine.

Louise5754 · 22/11/2021 08:45

Thanks all. What if it isn't Sleep Apnea?

Kikkomam · 22/11/2021 08:48

My dh snores incredibly loudly but he sleeps really well and has plenty of energy. No sleep apnea. I think some people just snore.

That's my concern. If it isn't that can anything stop the general snoring?

Thanks all. What if it isn't Sleep Apnea?
Rule it out before you worry any further about that. CPAP is no magic bullet. It's challenging sleeping with something on your face and it takes a lot of commitment, but if you're already exhausted it could literally change your life.
Louise5754 · 22/11/2021 09:11

I've messaged the triage at my doctors. Might hear back eventually lol. Thanks all.

Hi.

Hi I've been referred by my doctor fir a sleep apnea test.

I don't think I had the oxygen meter on my finger correctly.

I told them this when I took it back.

Results are just under the borderline.

I was hoping I had it as I wanted the machine. I'm on the sofa every night and feel awful.

I bought a Medisana inhaler machine today. I hoped it might work. I think it's just for asthma.

I'm getting desperate now. Why advice.

@Louise5754

It's extremely embarrassing as most people assume it's the man. I was in hospital recently and tried my best to stay awake all night.
Same here, I actually sleep on my front but still snore. It’s more of a whiny noise in my nose than the back of my throat
louise5754 · 18/02/2022 21:11

I use a snoring app and last night was awful. I just want a proper sleep in my own bed 😢😢
