Strongest air freshener?

The bathroom in our flat smells awful - a strong drain smell. There’s no window which doesn’t help. We live in a massive block of flats and when we asked our landlord he said it’s just one of those things that happens when you live in a huge apartment complex?

I know nothing about plumbing so no idea whether that’s true but either way - any suggestions for a strong air freshener/neutraliser? I had a reed diffuser from Sainsburys in there but it didn’t smell AT ALL - I couldn’t detect any scent!

Thanks in advance all, have a lovely Saturday evening

Just to add it’s quite odd and isn’t coming from any drain in particular - it gets no stronger if you sniff near the sink or toilet or shower so I don’t think any of them are actually blocked. It’s just a general stale whiffy smell

I always find neutradol gel odour destroyer good as a consistent then every now and then febreeze or essential oils are best maybe even an humidifier with essential oils?

Those Fabreeze bathroom air fresheners are very strong.

Good luck with it!

Have you tried pouring bleach down the sink or flushing out the toilet with hot water

I'd try bicarb and vinegar down all the drains first I think given that you have no windows in there it's likely poor ventilation is the problem. If the smell persists try a cap of Zoflora down the drains each night (sink, bath, shower). If that doesn't help oil diffusers are good but they can cause condensation so in your bathroom they may not be a good idea.

Are the flats on the ground floor affected? If they are it could be the public sewer in the road, which would be the responsibility of the local water and sewerage company.
