Anyone here work at Tesco as home delivery picker?

Can you settle an argument please?
DH and my MIL are convinced that when we get fruit and veg in our home delivery it's always the bashed/small/overripe ones that get picked so that the in-store shoppers see the best options. I reckon it's just the luck of the draw except for cauliflowers, which are always teeny tiny when I order them for delivery.

Who's right? If it's DH I have to keep up the weekly trip to Aldi to buy fruit and veg and quite frankly I'd rather not because I'm lazy.

As a picker, I try to pick the best available for my customers. Always pick the best date and make sure it is as good as it can be. I only pick what I would buy myself. If I wouldn't buy it, you won't get it. If you are getting bashed/small/overripe items, the picker isn't doing their job properly.

My mum is a picker for tesco and they are told to always pick the best for the customer and shop as if they're shopping for themselves.

Tell your MIL to attend when every delivery arrives to assess the groceries.

My DM is a picker and she always says she picks the best there as she would want for herself.

I also know loads of really lazy younger folk who work there who absolutely don’t care. Luckily not many.

So it’s just a case you’re getting bad pickers

Is it loads, or not many? Grin

I'm a picker, though not for Tesco, we pick the best quality and longest dates for the deliveries. I will say though, that the pick has to be done within a set time frame so it goes out on the van on time. This can mean that less experienced pickers might feel rushed and not put the best things in. You're not just picking for one customer at a time, it can be up to 10 at a time where I work. It's not as easy a job as you might think.

I know someone who does pick for a supermarket. If the customers reject or complain about quality of fruit and veg or short dates etc it can be immediately traced back to that picker and they are spoken to. There are consequences, but the picker also has a countdown timer on their handset so it's quite a stressful job.

Seems there's more to it than I had imagined!
@AdoraBell I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than have MIL round every week, to be honest, but maybe I could take photos and share them on the riveting group chat Grin
Sounds like I need a nice high quality picker with a good time/standards ratio. If only you could request your favourite picker!

What you need is a middle aged picker who has been doing their own shopping for years. Some of the things the younger members of staff pick really makes me wonder if they have ever shopped before! Unfortunately, we don't have a great deal of time to pick, but we do our best.

Not Tesco, but another supermarket and the training was pick what you would buy for yourself. Some pickers are fussier than others.
