Why am I waking up dizzy?

For the past 3 days I have had some dizzy spells. First was when I woke up in the morning I felt like the room was wobbling all over the place and I struggled to get up out of bed and walk. I felt like I was going to black out but didn't. It was worse when I bent over and had to get DH to help me put on my shoes but then it eased off while I was walking the dog and I felt fine.
The next night I woke up in the middle of the night and felt like the room was spinning - I felt nauseated and it was horrible. I fell back asleep and felt OK in the morning. Last night I felt seasick and a bit dizzy when taking a bath but it soon passed. Then this morning slightly dizzy when I first got up but nowhere near as bad as the first morning.
NHS website seems to indicate I probably don't need to see a doctor and it will probably pass by itself. Might be something to do with inner ear?
The thing is I'm supposed to fly to the states next weekend for a reunion with a close family member I haven't seen during the pandemic. Will I be OK to fly do you think? I do have good travel insurance. But not sure whether to even attempt to speak to a gp before I go, and if I do will that invalidate my insurance as a preexisting condition.

It might be worth trying the Epley manoeuvre in yourself. But, you do need to know which side is affected. Several good videos available to see what to do, but the Fauquier one is good

*on yourself!

You most likely have Labyrinthitis.there is medication for it to stop the symptoms of feeling dizzy and nausea.I have had it,its horrible,I never felt nausea like this before.try to get a PN or GP appointment.I know GP appointment is like winning the lottery nowadays.

Sounds like labyrinthitis - an inner ear virus IIRC.
I’ve had it twice, just getting over 2nd dose - first was rather worse.
It does go away eventually.
First time I had it (dh had had the same) the GP did prescribe something that helped.
Sympathies, though - it’s horrible. Even turning over in bed had to be done very slowly, and I couldn’t look up at anything quickly - I nearly fell over in a shop once, trying to see something high up.

Or low blood pressure? That can make you feel sick and dizzy, especially after a bath. You can probably get it checked at your local Boots or chemist without having to see a GP.

Maybe look up Benign Positional Vertigo and see if your symptoms match. I often get it after a heavy cold and it takes months to go. Makes me dizzy with certain movements - including turning over in bed but once I'm upright I forget about it. I currently have it after covid but it's gradually decreasing.

Thanks all. It sounds at least like it's probably something temporary. I'll try the Epley manoeuvre and will visit the chemist also.

Sounds exactly like Benign Positional Vertigo. I get this sometimes when I have a cold, and it’s really horrible, especially when you feel like you’re falling down a black hole when you turn your head in your sleep. Thankfully it’s not serious, and the Epley Manoeuvre really does help.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 20/11/2021 19:07

Epley and Brandt Daroff are both on YouTube, it’s awful OP. Feel your pain ☹️

NotJustACigar · 20/11/2021 20:07

I had to laugh - DH's eyes lit up when I said I wanted him to help me try a series of different positions in the bed. I hated to have to disappoint him when I explained the Epley manoeuvre.

I had the exact same symptoms - was early pregnancy.

Brandt Daroff exercises are very good if you can't do the Epley manoeuvre, they're easy to find online. If they work within a couple of days then it likely is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. It might reoccur, mine came back about 18 months after the first time but I was able to manage it better the second time. Good luck OP, the dizziness is horrible.

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 20/11/2021 20:43

Oh and you will be fine to fly if it is this, mine first happened about a week before I was due to fly and I really panicked but was totally ok.
