Acupuncture success stories? Particularly for sciatica

Does anyone have any? I have a prolapsed disc which is causing me sciatica. It was really bad in July and I saw a physio and it calmed down big time but it's flared up bad atm. Anyway I've booked some acupuncture although I'm sceptical and would love to hear some positive stories

It does help after a couple of sessions but I had to have surgery to fix the disc to really sort it out. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing. I'm trying so hard to avoid needing surgery! I hope you are all better now

I swore by it. Had it every six to eight weeks. It used to last a good six weeks with it. Only don't have it now as the service was pulled.

Yes I have five sessions, once. week. It really improved as I was at the point of eating my dinner kneeling on all fours as I couldn't sit still or stand for longer that a few mins.

Its totally fine now. I am under no illusions its gone for ever but for now its gone.

Not for pain, but I had it for secondary infertility and went on to have 2 more DC's.

I used to have it for sciatica - absolutely worked for me! However that was to release a trapped nerve. My husband had a bulged disc, acupuncture helped a little but steroid injections were what resolved it for him.

MondeoFan · 20/11/2021 08:11

I have the same as you Op, mine flares up more in the winter I'm guessing as it's cold and I'm more tense.
Sciatica mostly in one leg.
Tried acupuncture and it does work short term I'd say.

Got rid of my migraines and frozen shoulder.

I had it for struggling with TTC after loss. And then again for a torn calf - so physical and mental.

I’d 100% say it worked for both. Maybe the first was more of a placebo effect but the second definitely wasn’t.

CMOTDibbler · 20/11/2021 08:17

Not for sciatica, but I first had it (massively sceptically, but the physio offered) for really, really bad nerve pain which it would switch off/reduce massively for a few hours when morphine didn't touch it.
I've since had acupuncture for tennis elbow (again, tried it when steroids, ultrasound, physio hadn't worked) and it is amazing.
I get mine at a private physio who uses acupuncture as part of a whole view of therapy inc exercises, manipulation, massage and so on, and I know she does a massive amount of ongoing training for it

Footprintsinthegrass · 21/11/2021 15:44

Thank you everyone for the replies. I'm nervous but really hope this helps

Good luck! It may cause a flare up the first time, and may need a few sessions. So don't get disheartened.

handsoffmychips · 22/11/2021 08:37

I've had sciatica on and off for more than 30 years but youtube has some good videos of stretches which have helped a lot.
