I'm tired and hungry and thirsty but to scared to eat or drink anything.
So I'm starting this thread because I feel sorry for myself.
I'm only 2 weeks into a new job and can't believe I have had to phone in sick, so now m panicking about work

Drink sips of water. Not mouths full, it will stay down that way.
When the water is staying down try small bites of toast and build it up.
Try and get a bit of sugar in too, so a bit of squash if you can.

And don’t worry about work, they won’t want you in if you’ve got D&V !

@jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey
Happened to me after my first day in my new job!!
I stayed off until I was no longer infectious, better to be off than responsible for infecting everyone else.

SuffolkBargeWoman · 18/11/2021 08:12

Oh and tiny sips of water to rehydrate yourself, don't worry about eating until you feel better.

Exhausteddog · 18/11/2021 08:14

Ice lollies are meant to be good for rehydration if you have any (or could get someone to get them)

blobby10 · 18/11/2021 09:04

You poor thing x really hope you start to feel better soon. I find that cooled boiled water is better for rehydrating post sickness - its somehow 'softer' on the stomach!

Little bits of water and if you can face it the BRAT diet. I ate bananas and dry toast after gastroenteritis and it stayed down. And rest.

dontgobaconmyheart · 18/11/2021 11:04

Get some proper electrolytes into you OP. Some dioralyte (any supermarket, chemist or amazon sell them). Much better that plain water for this. Dehydration will leave you feeling rough for longer than you need to.

Unpleasant though it is it will pass, and I should imagine your employer is used to people calling in sick given we're in a pandemic, I'm sure they will move on from it quickly. Rehydrate, rest and try to eat when you can. I usually opt for dry toast or crackers as a starting point food wise if things are that bad. Hopefully you'll be back on your feet soon.
