lost about 8lbs in two months

without trying.
Had gained through lockdowns, around 8lbs but am back to where i was before it. 2 inches on waist gone. Hadn't noticed it coming off though. Had tried to drop a few lbs last year but ...nope.

I am a budding hypochondriac so go straight to bowel cancer ...(i have IBS so this is a thing i torture myself with, but no variations down there to speak of, aagh). I feel otherwise fairly normal..

What is interesting is i altered two things a couple of months ago, not to lose weight, though:

1/ We gave up processed food and anything with hydrogenated oil in it. As a result i have increased my consumption of healthy fats by a good amount. Weird.

2/ I gave up regular wine drinking and now prefer a tipple of neat or iced whiskey.

Which one is it, the food, the wine or the terminal illness?

(i have been less active recently due to work, etc, so it sure aint that!)

Well you've effectively been dieting if you've cut out processed crap and oils and wine. So it's more likely to be that than some disease I'd have thought,

MeetMeAtOurSpot · 17/11/2021 18:28

Wine.
Over 550 calories in the bottle of Pinot I love, how regular was your drinking?

Also, the processed stuff will have had sugar in it along with the fat.

Pheasantlysurprised · 17/11/2021 18:33

we did increase wine during the pandemic, and last year i drank more frequently, perhaps a bottle every two nights Blush

We did the food shake-up due to a few docs we watched about oils. We got heavily into cooking and searching out good stuff. We didnt think it would affect bodyweight though as we love cheese, butter, and so on and make soups with tons of cream plopped in it.

It is good to fit my clothes again without having to buy more, but even though my post is slightly lighthearted i do tend to worry too much about health. DP lost some earlier on in the year so no massive changes in him.

Just curious if it sounds normal under circumstances.

Unless you are baking, it sounds like you've gone low (lower carb). Check out the terminal illness worries too though I'd say.

I even make my own pesto and stuff now, it's a touch time consuming but so so tasty! But piles of pine nuts and parmesan cant be low fat.

The low fat myth is all probably bollox anyway.

It also depends when you weigh yourself too - I'm a good few pounds heavier at the end of each day than at the start or if I've drank a lot, and for some reason I weigh a few more pounds during periods too.

A bottle of wine every 2 nights is -approx 2000 calories a week. There’s your weight loss…

We gave up processed food and anything with hydrogenated oil in it. As a result i have increased my consumption of healthy fats by a good amount.

I've lost nearly 4 stone since last January (intentionally) by following a no processed foods diet. As well as avoiding hydrogenated this and extract of that, the diet drastically reduces your sugar consumption - if you follow it strictly, the only sugar you'll get is what naturally occurs in fruit and veg. You might be using more lard/butter/dripping but it doesn't go near equating to the sugar deficit, so losing weight is unsurprising.

If you're worried, though, speak to a doctor.

Pheasantlysurprised · 17/11/2021 18:45

thanks, it probably is the food and wine, ive just never been convinced higher fat would do that, but i did suspect.

i would worry if the weight continued to fall off of course so shall try not to think of disaster before i have to!

Oddly my body appears to have re-set to exactly where it used to be before lockdown.

im not hardcore though, i do enjoy Green&Blacks orange and almond chocolate twice a week.

A modest amount of high quality chocolate is generally regarded as an acceptable treat on that sort of diet.
