Could Iron supplement be making my DD ill?

Has anyone's child - or themselves - had illness from taking too much iron supplement or for too long?

I know it can often cause constipation but my DD age 5 has for the last 2 weeks been suffering from a permanent headache which wakes her in the night and gives her nightmares. She's started vomiting over the last few days but only a bit and is fine afterwards. Have taken her to hospital twice this week as GP was concerned, all tests so far seem normal and she is bright and alert but they want to do a MRI scan. Bit worrying. However I am now wondering if this is actually down to her taking an iron supplement (Sytron - Sodium Federatate) which she's been prescribed for tummy issues and been on for several months. Am waiting for a call back from the paediatrician to ask if it's a possibility but wondering if the body has too much iron, does it just pass through as waste like eg Vitamin C or could it be actually making her sick?

It is possible to have too much iron, are they monitored iron levels at all?
Early symptoms of iron poisoning may include stomach pain, nausea and vomiting. Gradually, the excess iron accumulates in internal organs, causing potentially fatal damage to the brain and liver

Has she had a sight test at all? It could expel the headaches if she maybe needs glasses.
Also, as a migraine sufferer myself, from early childhood:
Children who get migraines are more likely to have cyclic vomiting syndrome. And children who get abdominal migraines are likely to get migraine headaches when they grow up. They're also likely to have parents or relatives with a history of them. Nausea and vomiting are often common symptoms of migraine attacks

When she has her iron levels checked, make sure both HB iron and ferritin (stored iron) are checked. Sometimes the HB level can look fine but the ferritin is way too low or high.

Iron sulfate made me very spectacularly ill. I had to change to a different iron salt. You could have a chat with your pharmacist, they can help you to formulate questions for doctors!

Thank you for the responses! I did wonder if it could be abdominal migraines that have then moved up into the head. It's the headaches that are the main issue here and this didn't seem to get much of a mention in the list of side effects or by the Dr . And recent eye test was fine. She swapped from one kind of iron to another (although has been on this before no problems) in the last few weeks. The thing that made me wonder is that on Dr's recommendation we have tried excluding milk and soya from her diet for 4 weeks to see if that helps iron absorption. This has happened in the middle of this and I'm wondering if it's actually working and now she's absorbing iron ok but now has an excess with the supplement on top. Am cutting it down to see if this makes any difference. I might be clutching at straws though...
