Come hither for a boring thread on frying pans!

Getting an induction hob. Current frying pan is thankfully not suitable for induction. I say thankfully because after a decade of heavy use it's well past it's best but no so bad I can justify an expensive replacement!

I want a good frying pan. So hit me with the best - large 28 or 30cm. Good for a fry up and Bolognese.

This thread is a bit old now, but if you’re looking for advice on which kitchenware to buy, we’ve recently refreshed our best frying pan guide with plenty of high-quality options for induction hobs recommended by Mumsnetters. We hope you find it useful.

tefal. if they can go on induction hobs. bloody brilliant. takes a lot of abuse. had it 15 years as the old one was ruined when ex cooked somehting in it while I was recovering from the birth of first child.

I've ditched tefal after years of being disappointed. The surface has started to scratch after a few months and i only use plastic utensils, hand wash etc.

Trying a Scoville Neverstick which seems very good so far.

I've had few Tefal pans over the years and found them awful. Scratched easily. Maybe I bought the cheap ones though.

Another vote for Scoville neverstick, really quite cheap (often on offer in Asda or Argos) and feel really nice quality. I have a crock pot that is starting to wear, but it was only about £15 and has been in the dishwasher at least once a week for about five years.

We also have some from Ikea, the Oudling (sp) ones, which it looks like they've just been rebranded as Ikea 365+

I don't think pans are worth spending a lot of money on TBH. Expensive ones don't seem that much better than cheaper ones to justify the higher price and you can get a lot of cheaper ones for the price of one high price one, ie an expensive one might cost five times more than a cheaper one, but it doesn't last five times as long, more like 2/3 times tops.

I've had induction hobs for many years and one of the best pans I've had is by go cook, in Tesco and often on offer. Rinse in hot soapy water, rub over with kitchen roll and done. Still as good as new after 3 years of regular use.

This www.hartsofstur.com/circulon-ultimum-forged-aluminium-with-stainless-steel-30cm-skillet-10867gt.html was my best lockdown purchase. 18 months on and still like new. Out of stock there but probably available elsewhere.

I love my stainless steel IKEA one, in the sensuell range. I wanted to ditch non-stick and I can't be happier I did. I can sling it in the dishwasher, scour it properly, it works perfectly and is always sparkling clean!

There was a thread on here a few weeks ago and Scoville ( never heard of them) were recommended. I just happened to be in Asda the next day and got one. Had it about 2 weeks now and I am thoroughly impressed. Cost about £12 I think.

My last good frying pan was from Stellar and was £80! I have had umpteen Tefal recently and they have been rubbish.

TheWoollybacksWife · 17/11/2021 15:28

I have this le Creuset one. It was about £90 when I bought it but that was 15 years ago and it gets used on average about 3 times a week so works out at less than 5p per use and it's still going strong. I have used a scourer/brillo pad on it if it's got a bit of residue that doesn't come off with normal washing up. It's heavy mind.

I have a small cheapy that I mainly use for fried eggs, I think it was a fiver in Asda or similar.
For anything else I use my cast iron Le Creuset, cost a fortune, weighs a ton but I bloody love it!
I also have a wok, but tbh never use it, ditto paella pan.

PlausibleSuit · 17/11/2021 15:35

I have a Circulon one at the moment. It's... okay. I'm currently on my second, after the coating began to flake off the original one. It's starting to happen to this one now, too. I won't be buying a third.

Yes, my frying pan tends to double as a wok and a paella pan. I've separate ones in the past and never used them.

I'll take a look at the suggestions thanks. I'll probably get a cheap one and give it a go.

Nothing with Teflon on it now we know how toxic it is.
