Does anyone get really clumsy and terrible brain fog before their period.

I’m 42 so maybe peri menopausal? But I’m noticing more and more that I am so clumsy just before I get my period. And I’m really scatty and forgetful too.

The most frustrating thing is that my hands feel different. They’re stiff and a bit numb, they don’t feel like they belong to me and I’m much less dexterous. I just finished folding a load of laundry and it was actually freaking me out how I couldn’t get my hands to work properly. I kept dropping the corner of the item I was folding. So annoying but it only happens when I have PMT. As soon as my period starts it goes away.

Is this a thing or should I be worried?!

Clumsy and forgetful yes. Recognised it years ago and is part of my pms. Not as irritating a part as the spots and bloating though...!

Interrobanger · 16/11/2021 20:20

I never used to be as bad as this. It’s definitely got worse the older I’ve got.

Yes. I bash myself on doors or walk into things or drop things. I hate it. Also if it hurts, I end up bawling my eyes out.

Not so much the brain fog but a yes to the clumsiness. It’s like I’m no longer aware of where I end and my thighs are constantly bruised from walking into table edges!

FlowerFlour · 16/11/2021 20:23

I get so clumsy around my period. I'm always dropping and fumbling stuff. It's not just you!

Bananapants2020 · 16/11/2021 20:23

Yes, me! I'm mid-30s and noticed this increasingly this year, always towards the end of my cycle.

Things fall out of my hands and, like you describe, I'm a lot less dexterous - my hands just don't do what I want, it's as if the connection between my brain and my hands isn't quite working. It's weird and annoying!

SunShinesBrightly · 16/11/2021 20:25

Yes. Peri-menopausal here.
Gets worse around my period - I can’t remember words, names, information. I also get very clumsy. I drop things and my hands don’t seem to work properly!
It’s awful!

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 16/11/2021 20:29

I'm 46 and had terrible tiredness and brain fog in the week before my most recent period. Lifted the minute my period started so was obviously hormonal.

Interrobanger · 16/11/2021 20:38

Oh phew! I’m sorry it’s all of you as well. But I’m also glad it’s not just me!

And yes! to whoever said it’s like you don’t know where your edges are. My spatial awareness changes, like I’ll reach for a door handle and miss it but only by millimetres. And I’m always banging my hips and elbows on furniture.

Hello!
Clumsy, absolutely. Definitely worse around period.
Spatial awareness goes to shit.

PeanutButterJamming · 16/11/2021 20:44

Yes. I’ve always been clumsy and had brain fog when I’m pre menstrual, but it’s definitely worse with age (44).

I also stutter and find stringing a sentence together challenging, which isn’t fun when I deliver training for a living!

handsoffmychips · 16/11/2021 21:00

Yup physically clumsy and the day before my period and the day I come on I feel just duuuuuuuuuuuuh - inarticulate and just slower to grasp ideas like when you have just woken up. WFH has been great because I can hide it!

TheRealMrsJelly · 16/11/2021 22:14

Same here. Menopausal, but worse at different times of the month. Foggy, lazy, forgetful, clumsy, weird sensations in my face/hands, as well as my speech going a bit odd. I'm a massive hypochondriac, so it's a worry, but I'm pleased to hear it's a thing and not just me.

Babyg1995 · 17/11/2021 08:36

Yes every month for years now I'm 35 and it's got worse each year I dread work around that time .

SequinnedShawl · 17/11/2021 09:34

Yes. Brain fog and lack of coordination. I walk into doors, miss steps, bump into tables that have been there forever...

BogRollBOGOF · 17/11/2021 09:40

Normally one week before mine. I feel inexplicably lousy, drained, irritable, check the calendar and oh, quel surprise it's day 20-21. It then passes into the heavy bloaty feeling.
I'm 40. Noticed it in the last few years. The period is a relief!

blobby10 · 17/11/2021 09:49

Me too! I'm 52 and have been aware for the past decade or so that my spatial awareness is horrendous. I have to be extra careful parking the car and whereas the other 3 weeks of the month I can reverse or parallel park first time, the week before I'm due it takes 3,4 or sometimes 6 goes!

Bloating and exhaustion has got much much worse over the past 2 years but much of that could be down to excessive stress due to personal circs.

TheFeistyFeminist · 17/11/2021 09:55

Yes, if I drop something I thought I had a good grip of, it's likely my period is imminent. That instant flash of intense anger out of nowhere, likewise. Brain fog is definitely less of a problem since starting HRT.

StormyCornishSeas · 17/11/2021 11:59

I'm dyspraxic so clumsy anyway but I do have more "off" days when pmsing

I'm always losing stuff when I'm due on. Not specifically forgetful but feel less organised

foxgoosefinch · 17/11/2021 12:02

Yes, am probably in peri but have always had this before my period though. I always drop at least one thing when it’s about to start. In the days when I didn’t track my period it was the main signal I was about to come on Grin

Recently have had hand pain and finger joint pain like you describe when I’ve got PMS.
