Do you apply the 48hour rule for v&d to yourself ?

I’d never heard of the 48 rule until I had kids and have always gone back to work once I feel ok which in the case of a bug would be way before the 48 hours. I assumed the 48 hours just applied to kids as they are more likely to spread germs. I work in an office environment and it’s not something that’s ever been mentioned or enforced. Most people as far as I’m aware go back as soon as week well. Just asking as I’ve noticed the advice on nhs website is 48 hours for all.

Every time I’ve had a slightly upset stomach? No. When I had actual noro I did.

A fairly large percentage of people I know don’t apply it to their kids either.

I work in a hospital, its very much enforced but the 2 days don't count as sick leave, they are 'medical exemption'. When I worked in retail it was enforced too. I think if you work with the public it is expected.

Working in food industry policy was 2 clear days off work after diarrhea or vomiting... But then I wouldn't apply that to vomiting I knew was caused by migraine and other staff whose job didn't require them to enter food prep area didn't bother with the rule

Where I work the policy is 24 hours

The 48 hr rule is to prevent transmissions from the tail end of a noro virus when a child is still infectious but could be feeling better, as most children and toddlers are not only inherently unhygienic (I say this with love) they also love sticking fingers into each others mouths or sharing food.

Where my dc go to school the 48 rule is enforced in primary school but in secondary school it is only 24 hours.

I haven't had v and d since I was about 4, is it prevalent in adults? My kids have never had it .

Enforced in mine but it counts as sickness as normal.

One of my children is exempt as long as it's JUST D&V as a medical condition means she had it as often as weekly and missed huge portions of school. But if she has any other symptoms then she stays off the 48 hours. I tend to follow the same myself, I often know why I've had a dodgy tummy so I assess the risk. Any hint of it being something communicable and I stay home.
