10 week scan, very worried

Hi Ladies

I hope somebody can help but appriciate that I may be worrying over nothing but I find myself getting so anxious in the run up to my 12 week scan due to a previous MMC.

I booked a private scan at 10w 3 days and all was well. However the sonograoher was very adament about booking a harmony test through them and kept asking when my NT nhs appointment is which is not for a couple of week yet.

It has been playing on my mind so I reviewed the scan pictures again and I can see possible fluid at the back (attached) does anybody have any experience of this.

Thanks!

Surely they want you to book the harmony because its very expensive and they want to make money?

I don't think you'll get reliable answers on an Internet forum I'm afraid. A friend of mine did go for a private scan and was told to go immediately to EPAU because it wasn't OK. I don't think they'd tell you it was ok if it wasn't?

SleafordSods · 16/11/2021 08:02

Unfortunately I think that can be part of the problem in early PG, especially if you've had problems before. You know the baby is there but now you've swapped one worry for another. It's hard isn't it.

I know it's so much easier said than done but try to ignore the comments whilst you're waiting for the next test Thanks

Agree with PP. They want the $$. If something was obviously worrying they would’ve told you.

Please don't worry, it's private so unlike nhs services they always pressure/try to get you to book more scans for the money.
A couple of weeks isn't very long, definitely wait for the nhs appointment and get a non biased professional outlook on things.
Also congratulations! Smile

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 16/11/2021 09:52

Yes forgot to say, Congratulations, and please don't take my comments to be uncaring, I didn't mean it to be that, and please don't worry too much!

SniggleSnarf · 16/11/2021 10:24

In my last private scan they were pushing for the harmony tests. Baby is here now and fine and healthy. We only had NHS tests - agree with PP in that it's probably to get more money from you. Good luck

Thank you all for taking the time to respond, I will definitely try to stop all of the google searching! Xx

Did the early scan tell you the NT measurement?

BingBongToTheMoon · 16/11/2021 15:43

They want to scare you into spending money with them!
These companies really should be banned, they CAN cause more worry than reassurance.

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 16/11/2021 15:53

They'll want the money OP, if they were to find anything, 2 weeks isn't going to make much of a difference. I think sometimes places pray on people that are clearly already worrying and felt the need to book an early scan, some will fall for it. Congratulations, I hope you're pregnancy goes well x

Starcaller · 16/11/2021 15:55

I suspect it's to do with the nuchal thickness on that image, although they should have explained to you what they were seeing. Was it Babybond? I've had a few private scans, all with NHS sonographers who do shifts on their off days, and no one ever suggested there was something potentially wrong with my baby just to get me to shell out more money, so if that's genuinely what you think has happened, I would complain.

4amstarts · 16/11/2021 15:58

I'm not trained but yes I can see what looks like a lot of fluid at the back of the baby and when I've had 10 week scans before you couldn't see that. That being said NT isn't reliably before 11+6 which is when the NHS take the measurements - I would book the NIPT test if you are concerned though x

gogohm · 16/11/2021 16:32

In all honesty these private scans cause more problems than they solve. Have your nhs scan and trust their opinion on whether extra private testing is advisable

makelovenotpetrol · 16/11/2021 17:07

Nuchal thickness has to be measured during a very specific time window as other wise it's not accurate and 10 weeks is too early for this.

This is exactly why early private scans are not recommended as they only cause worry.

bananaleaf2706 · 16/11/2021 17:44

Please don't worry. 10 weeks is too early to get a meaningful NT measurement. The fluid will decrease loads between now and 12 weeks, which is precisely why the NHS take these measurements at that point. I know it's easy to worry but please try not to xxx

Nickyloui · 16/11/2021 18:22

Thank you all for responding. Before posting this morning I did email to the sonogropher, not really expecting much of a response but they just called and said that they suggest this testing to eveyone as an additional service and appologised if it seemed pushy. They said that they expect to see fluid at this gestation and that it will all depend on the measurement within the 12-13 week window. Did not say anything about the measurements as she said it could be misleading or irrelevant. She then did say she would book me in for a boinding scan so it does seem like they like to upsell Xx
