Horrendous and scary weather

Just need to share. I am in Vancouver on the 8th floor in a condo that faces the Pacific Ocean.

It is absolutely pouring rain and has been all night. They call it an atmospheric river. It is also extremely windy. I am afraid of trees blowing down.

All the roads to the Interior of BC are closed due to mud slides. Some people have been stuck in between two slides. They are OK but obviously scared. The authorities don't know how to get them out yet. Maybe airlift or train (there are tracks nearby). There are about 50 cars.

Some cars were also caught up in the slides.

So so awful for those poor people. Just hoping they are safe.

I’ve seen Merritt is being evacuated because all the utilities are out (including water and waste water). Thinking of everyone there, and those who are making the journey to Kamloops for evac centres. I’ve only been to Canada once but we stayed in Vancouver and Kamloops, and had great hospitality.

Atmospheric rivers are what feeds the Amazon, and the lack of them caused droughts there too. What’s happening this year in western Canada is just awful. Sending love from the UK.

Morning here, thankfully not raining or windy. So much damage and so much stress for people.

I just listened to an interview on CBC radio. A nurse who was at the scene of a slide basically rescued a family from a car that had been swept over a bank. Others at the scene helped.

She sounded amazing and so brave. Clearly she put herself in harms way and then checked on others in trapped cars.

Then she and all the others waited all night to be airlifted out.

There is massive damage to highways, homes, and infrastructure.

Well, we made the BBC news, at least the website we can see here.

There is one recorded fatality but it sounds like more to come. So so sad.

There were many people trying to get to metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island on Sunday as the universities had a reading break and we had Remembrance Day last week. People had gone home to visit family.

I have never seen a storm like that, and I have seen many having grown up in the Interior and visited Lakes etc. It was scary for me all snug in my all snug in my apartment. I can barely imagine how it was to be out in it. Our neighbourhood is littered with debris. And, would you believe, it was frosty last night.

Dear weather gods, please make up your mind.

Our food prices have already been increasing, and there are items hard to find. We rely heavily on transport from other parts of Canada which is cut off. There are big bridge collapses and it will take awhile to put up temporary crossings, with winter coming it will be difficult as the areas involved are in rugged mountainous terrain that gets extreme winter weather every year.

Thank you all for your support l.

Said a prayer this morning for the girl that was lost, and those still missing. Their poor families.

I also sent DH out to fill the car with gas, and pick up prescription for the next while.
I hate worrying about running out as I am on a med that can not be stopped without a slow taper.

I really hope they can get at least one road open soon, it is deeply worrying not knowing how long supply chain will be impacted for, and being on an island makes it that tiny bit harder.

Seafog I know a bit how you feel being isolated on an island. I am not but the supply chain issue worries me too as I am getting older and am on a medication by infusion for my ulcerative colitis. I think it come from Ontario but hopefully by air.

I can tell you I am never going far in the car anymore without an emergency kit, plus food and water.

So horrible there are still people missing.

I fear people will start panic shopping and hoarding. Let's hope not.

Take care.

The news footage is horrifying.
