I need a house plant that doesn't die easily

All my house plants die. Always. I've been given a nice pot and am looking for a medium sized plant.

Bonus points if I can order it online.

Any recommendations?

Money plant…just gone back into work after 20 months, mine has survived being in a box the whole time! It looks pretty ropey, but it is not dead !

I've got 2 money plants which have been going strong for 6 years or so. They seem to do better when I forget to water them for weeks on end!

I’ve killed Peace lilies, snake plant, aloe vera, succulents, most recently a Dracaena Sad and many more but the Spider plant stays strong they are the only real plants I have (got a monsters recently watching how it does)
I got my first spider from Bakker

I've managed to keep alive an Aloe Vera for years, poor thing gets quite neglected but is still growing and had babies.

BogRollBOGOF · 16/11/2021 09:52

My spider plant went to university with me 20 years ago! My aloe vera is also about 20, one of the volunteers at the hospital gave it to me when I was working there in the summer. She was very elderly so the plant must have long out-lived her. My money plant is at least 15, probably closer to 18. The orchid must be about 10. The peace lilies are more recent but live on.
All thrive on neglect!

I find cacti harder as I find it hard to judge when they look sad enough to water.

EnidFrighten · 16/11/2021 09:58

Are you sure you killed off Aloe Veras? I had a couple I was sure were dead. I threw them in a big pot outdoors and they started growing again after a month or two, with barely any soil and outdoor temperatures!

I think the trick is to see if you can avoid buying plants as that makes it worse when they die - if someone gives you the babies from their spider plant, or a bit of succulent to sprout etc, it matters less when it dies!

second ZZ plant brilliant

Another vote for peace lily. Mine sits in quite a dark spot but it doesn’t mind at all. Water it when it droops.
I’ve also got a mother in laws tongue on my bathroom window sill which is going strong despite the direct sunlight and neglect.
I’ve killed many aloe Vera plants and the odd cactus.
Cheese plants are good too.
