I’ve dipped my toe into this world. It started with the idea of a some lamps on timers for security and then moved on to a lamp set as a wake-up lamp (I do love this).
What am I missing? I can’t quite get my head around the idea of the “big light being hue especially since DH lovingly installed normal dimmer switch for a normal light.
Do I need more accent lighting? It’s very expensive if you get it wrong.
For those of you already thinking it, this is peak first world problems.

For me the best benefit is to focus on rooms where lights do not need to be on all the time. So, for example, we have Hue bulbs in the hallway, connected to motion sensors. They come on as you pass through then turn themsleves off again.

Then look at rooms where you want different behaviours at different times. e.g. we have Hue in bathrooms (with motion sensors) where you want bright lights during the day but just the dimmest light if you go for a pee overnight.

Finally, it helps to have a smart speaker (e.g. Echo) so you can turn lights on and off with your voice. Especially useful in bedrooms where you don't have to get out of the bed to turn lights on/off if you need to.

Oh and don;t get coloured bulbs unless you really, really want them and know you will use them. 99% of the time I just want a warm or cool version of white light - these bulbs are cheaper.

The Gadget show reviewed it. See if you can find the episode. It was pretty detailed.
