Bear with me please!

I’m re-evaluating my life with a view to taking better care of myself which I have not been doing for a very long time. I’ve been doing yoga for a few years and have a fantastic instructor who manages to help me really get the best out of every session (not all instructors do) As a result I’ve been pondering the idea of setting up as some kind of relaxation/mindfulness/gentle movement/well being coach offering group classes and maybe even going into schools and/or workplaces to teach methods people can use to calm/focus/energise/centre themselves so they can get the best out of their day and also as a long term thing for a better work/school/home environment.

Is that a thing? Does it already exist and if so what is it called? What sort of training do I need to search for?

I have no idea but I think it should be! There's plenty of people out there who don't need therapy, but they'd generally benefit from a wellness session on things like coping mechanisms and recognising stressors. I think step one is the sort of thing you are saying (taking a moment to pause and reflect type scenario) and step 2 is the resilience side that would go hand in hand with it. I think if you were just doing the chill out side then you're going down the meditation route and I assume you want to start with googling "guided meditation".

Oh and I've literally just discovered Derry Girls this week. Where have I been?! It's bloody brilliant.

Most schools don't have funding for this kind of thing.

If you want to work in the daytime, you may be better off focusing on people who are free then and can afford what you're offering.

Grin they’re great aren’t they? Season 3 being filmed now!

Yes, this is the kind of thing, a practise to start your day off calm, focussed, ready to learn/work etc and then a tool box of things to whip out when stresses are building to bring you back to a place where you can think well and make the choices that help you.

Schools wasn’t really the main target market I was thinking of, just one option. I’m part of a support group for a condition and they do lots of things like this so I was thinking along those lines as well mum groups and maybe local businesses.

I’ve seen lots of this, and unfortunately I am not sure you’d get much take up for it if you’re only just starting out yourself

I think you’d be better to start with yourself and then look to set up in a few years once you’ve become very well practiced in it

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 15/11/2021 16:19

Yes that would be the plan @ShirleyPhallus
