Reporting family member’s terrible driving

It pains me to write this. My DGM is 84 and is shockingly bad at driving. She has only been driving for the last ten years after DGF died (but has had a license for 60 years).

She has complete disregard for people/cars, drives too fast and doesn’t look when turning or reversing. Her current trick is a 3 point turn at a busy junction where she lives. She could spend an extra 3 minutes driving a loop back to her house but won’t. Two people have ‘reported’ her to different family members who have tried talking to her but were met with anger, and now seem to think they’ve done enough.

Could/ should I report her somewhere? I feel AWFUL even contemplating this, but would feel a lot worse if she caused serious injury (it’s a residential area). This will probably cause a huge family fallout. What would you do?!

Age UK says if all avenues of talking to the person are exhausted then write to DVLA. But would your parent/aunt/uncle take this on, as it is their parent? If not then I would think about taking on the reporting yourself.

Difficult.

If you have a dashcam, you could perhaps follow her in your car one time then send the footage to the police? Make sure your own driving is good though as they will look at that too.
