What do your small dc buy you for Christmas?

When I was little, we has special things id get my mum. Particular sweets and chocolate she likes, dad always got her fave perfume, nanny always got a nice bottle of (the same) bubble bath. I dobt kniw I I'm being weird, but I'd live to have the same "tradition" with my dc, but don't really kniw what I want! There are 2 dc, and my mum does the buying with them (single, their dad buy wholly inappropriate presents Hmm )

I've thought if so e chocolates so just need another thing for around £10 . I'm so unused to buying for myself that I'm really struggling. I also have loads of handcream so not needed.

What small things do you get or love?

Nice socks, make-up, candle, room spray, or maybe they could choose you a Christmas decoration?

QueenAdreena · 14/11/2021 21:01

My DC love buying me hair bobbles/hair clips from Boots, a book from Waterstones or going to the garden centre and picking out a candle. It’s not necessarily stuff I particularly want or need, but I love the fact that they’ve chosen it themselves.

RedPandaMama · 14/11/2021 21:02

Nothing from mine (she's now 4) however her dad and I aren't together and I wouldn't expect him to buy me something from her. She's always made me things at preschool in past years and they really do mean everything though. I'm a sucker for handmade things and drawings!

DH gave them free reign. Highlights included a roaring dinosaur head, and an inedible Minions Easter egg for Mothers Day. Grin

More recently they get me lego, books, coffee, chocolates, etc.

MonkeyPuddle · 14/11/2021 21:08

DP takes them to homesense and lets them choose me a candle.

lovablequalities · 14/11/2021 21:10

We do this. My bairns have bought their daddy a Tony Chocoloney multi pack from the corner shop. Brief discussion of what they think the parent might like then peruse online or go to a local shop. A budget of £10 or so which is reasonable for between the three of them.

In the past I have been given a cookery book (because it had a pink cover!😂) and a turquoise nail polish and florentine biscuits...

HaggisTheGreat · 14/11/2021 21:13

If there’s nothing you really want, just let the DC choose. I’ve let mine loose in eg Tiger with some cash, or somewhere like Boots - they’re super proud of what they’ve found, so it’s sweet even if not to your taste. If your mum is on board she can vet their ideas and get them to talk through what you might like.

inflatableseahorses · 14/11/2021 21:13

From the age of about 3, my DC have been let loose in the christmas confectionary aisle of the supermarket & told to choose something for each of their relatives as well as the babysitter, childminder etc. I've been amused by their decision making process sometimes. More recently, they get taken to M&S and told to choose something as that brings smellies & things like socks into the options as well as chocolates.

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/11/2021 21:16

They obviously didn’t buy me anything when they were small Grin

But on their behalf, dad bought something pretty for the garden, which is my thing. I still have two very sweet, 26 year old “fairy crossing” stakes and move them every year.
I also have a rigatoni bracelet and necklace that are 16 years old. The colours have faded over the year but the love hasn’t.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 14/11/2021 21:17

I have a totally batshit insane china duck that my boys chose for a birthday present for me. It is utterly without reason or precedence and I completely love it and DH for allowing/paying for it

A580Hojas · 14/11/2021 21:21

Aww this takes me back. When my DC were little I'd take them out to buy things like a diary or peanut brittle or some socks for dh. He would do the same in reverse for me - usually socks, sweets, a bath bomb, a notebook. Such a completely adorable moment unwrapping those "gifts" from the small ones who would be so excited about giving it [warm huggy smile].

ImFree2doasiwant · 14/11/2021 21:22

I do like the idea of letting them loose. Grin

My wee ones buy similarly for each other. The young ones have seen a snitch necklace in the Argos catalogue that they BEYOND excited to give to their big sister. They keep coming and telling me that she "doesn't know yet" and "it's sooooo beautiful mummy!" They actually haven't been able to think of anything for themselves because they're so chuffed about this one.

Kite22 · 14/11/2021 21:36

Seems a bit pointless to give your Mum the money, ask her to take them to the shops, and then tell them what to buy.

Mine didn't buy us presents until they started getting their own pocket money, aged around 7. Then they were let loose into somewhere like Poundland to choose something on their own. Then it actually was from them, with their thought in it, and their wrapping, etc.

They used to be SO excited to be able to do this.

MegaClutterSlut · 14/11/2021 21:39

When the dcs were small, I used to give the dc £2 each to go in the £1 shop with dh to buy me 2 presents each whilst I sat outside. Then dh would sit outside and I'd repeat for dh. They had to pick the presents by themselves and wrap them when they got home. They absolutely loved it 😁

BertieBotts · 14/11/2021 21:40

I love it when they get free reign and choose something utterly random :o It's great as well if you are good at steering them just a tiny bit (e.g. not for yourself but for siblings etc) as it helps them start to get the skill of selecting a good gift. So I ask them what they think the person would like and then we go to a shop that sells that kind of thing and they pick there. But even if it's totally off the mark/their own preference etc I just let them roll with it. It's cute and you can remember it when they are older.

DS2 is 3 and just in a hilarious age but can't keep a secret as he is much too excited :o

BertieBotts · 14/11/2021 21:41

Hence I know I'm getting a "special pillow" for Christmas whatever that is :o :o :o

I can't wait!

Naughtynovembertree · 14/11/2021 21:45

We go to charity shop and all shop for each other trim there! So random what you get but cheap.
Havering said that one near by had an incredible collection of wedgewood.

MsDidoTwite · 14/11/2021 21:50

Always something homemade with a note ( kept them all once they could right. Teen son knows my taste and bought me Nick Caves’ latest album last year Smile

MsDidoTwite · 14/11/2021 21:53

First time (same child) bought me anything, it was the Minions Annual. We loved the films when he was little and watched them all together
