Worried about failing my probation at work

I'm nearly at the end of my 3 month probationary period and I'm really worried about failing it. It's my first job since university and I've never had a probationary period before in previous jobs.

My manager has been giving pretty good feedback to me. I get pretty positive feedback from colleagues, although lately we have been busy and that has meant my manager has caught a few typos in my work which I'm a bit worried about. The only negative/constructive feedback I had was at my 6 week review my manager told me I need to communicate more with the team on the status of my projects, and that's something I have implemented and my manager has said she has noticed I am doing that more now.

I'm still worried. I'm mainly WFH and have found it hard to fit in with the team. They are all very outgoing and close knit and I'm very shy. I have been a lot better at communicating with colleagues over emails, but I still struggle during meetings and feel like I'm very awkward during them.

I'm terrified that I'm going to fail. I have a 1 week left to try and turn things around.

It sounds like you are doing really well, are THEY doing enough to support you?

NotExactlyOptimistic · 14/11/2021 21:41

Sounds like you're doing a great job OP!

It sounds like you're doing just fine, OP!

From an HR point of view you can't just get booted out of your job at the end of your probation unless you have had issues which have been identified, a plan has been put in place and you've still not managed to resolve them. Even then, a more likely outcome would be to extend probation to give you an opportunity to fix the issues. (Unless you've done something classed as gross misconduct.)

Sounds like you are doing a great job!

You’ve had some feedback, made adjustments, that’s been noticed - as a manager I’d be extremely happy knowing someone was able to adjust and work hard to meet the brief.

Keep doing what you’re doing Smile and try not to worry Smile
