SORN question

Afternoon,

My car's MOT expired on Friday. It is currently at a garage, where it will be MOTd as soon as the part it would have failed on is fixed (the MOT was originally Thursday but cancelled when realised it would fail). I left the car at the garage. It will, touch wood, be sorted and pass by the end of the week. It obviously isn't being driven.
The car's tax liability is zero and it has been registered for the year. It is still insured and will remain so until back on the road again.
Do I need to SORN it for a week only?

Isn’t SORN if it isn’t taxed and not being driven?

I think SORN is when you want a tax refund and not insure it but just wanted clarity on here as I have received a reminder (that I set up) about my MOT having expired. I know it's expired. But I also know there's no grace period for MOTs and the DVSA(?) will say MOT it or SORN it...it is being MOTd but the mechanic says part will take 5 days to arrive so looking at Thursday at the earliest.

It Doesn’t need SORN unless parked on a public highway (Road I guess) so if it is at the garage premises in their parking area it is fine don’t worry
But as a PP said SORN is for when it isn’t taxed and not expired MOT, which means it can’t be driven

I have never had an expired MOT reminder - was it your garage that sent that

BeaucoupFish · 14/11/2021 14:03

Sorry OP you set up your own reminder I did not read it properly
Good idea actually

No you don't need to sorn it just don't drive it without a mot. You only sorn a car if you don't want to pay the road tax on it because you're not using the vehicle on the road
