Are Dualit toasters worth their price?

Need to buy a new toaster. In the past have bought everything from dirt cheap to moderately expensive. All seem to need you to flip the toast round to get anything approaching even on both sides.

Are the expensive Dualits worth the price? Am tempted to just bite the bullet and go for one.

26 years and had timer knob and elements replaced for the first time this year. I found them very polite and helpful.

@NannyR

I've used them in several houses where I've worked as a nanny and I've never been that impressed - there always seems to be a lot of rearranging to make sure that the toast is evenly cooked. I wouldn't say it makes any better toast than my £20 breville toaster that I use at home, although mine doesn't get daily, family use.
Yep. Uneven toast central.

We are very happy with our breville

For- They do last forever, our previous one was 15 years old before we had to replace it, and we got another 4 slicer.
It also makes brilliant toast.
It looks great in our kitchen.
Against- depending on the bread, you sometimes have to change it around a few times to get an even browning.

We've had a 4 slice one for the best part of 20 years with no issues at all. It came with a free set of toaster cages which I use all the time when making cheese toasties. It was a special deal at Costco.

We’ve had ours for 21 years still going strong.

Whitney168 · 14/11/2021 11:38

Right, I think the majority vote is 'for' - am going to do it!

Thanks, all.

Ours has lasted ages, where previous toasters had relatively short lives. The toast itself isn't noticeably better. It seems to cook one side faster than the other, just like all the other toasters we've had.

RaisedByPangolins · 14/11/2021 12:08

Had mine for over 20 years - it lasted longer than my marriage Grin

Has had a new element and a new timer switch in that time, but that’s why it’s so good, because it can be fixed if there’s a problem, rather than having to throw away and buy a new one. The timer was done by someone at work so free - not sure about the element but that was several years ago so it’s more than paid for itself.

Ten years old, family of six, still perfect!

Howdidigetsoold · 14/11/2021 12:32

Mine is 23 years old so think they are worth it - I still like the look of it.

chesirecat99 · 14/11/2021 12:32

Mine is almost 25 years old and still going strong without any repairs.

I'm not sure it is the best toaster for toasting evenly but I love it for its longevity and repairability. I also like that it has the lever for lifting up the toast so you can check on it and turn it easily, especially if you are toasting something different, like crumpets or tea cakes, and aren't sure of the best setting.

I also like that you can use it as sandwich toaster. I'm not sure that the toastie cage is compatible with all models though so check if you want one.

BonteGracieuse · 14/11/2021 12:48

If you like to cut your own bread and have thick slices - don't do it. The slots aren't wide enough for nice thick toast, and not big enough anyway, so I have to turn it over to get the top done.

Overpriced rubbish IMHO.

PriamFarrl · 14/11/2021 12:58

I’ve already said it but go for this type: www.johnlewis.com/dualit-newgen-4-slice-toaster/p231417651

NOT THIS ONE: www.johnlewis.com/dualit-lite-2-slice-toaster-with-warming-rack/p231618602

OR THIS ONE: www.johnlewis.com/dualit-architect-4-slice-toaster/p231746232

Only the first one is repairable, I think.

SpinachIsAGatewayDrug · 14/11/2021 12:59

I think the toasters are - they go forever - but the kettles are not. I've had 3/3 break within about three years.

DGFB · 14/11/2021 13:02

Had ours several years and still going strong. Makes good toast.
The cages are rubbish though in my opinion, I’ve gone back to a Breville sandwich maker for toasties

DGFB · 14/11/2021 13:02

I’ve also got a Dualit kettle.. four years old and still like new
