Overcharged - anything I can do?

I went out to a bar with some other mum friends last night. We had four bottles of wine between 7 (one driver who just had a glass). The bar was loud and the staff were slow. A tray of cocktails were brought to our table which we redirected to the next table as we hadn't ordered them.

When the bill came, we didn't get a 'bill' on the table (and didn't ask for one - our mistake). The waitress who was very lovely told us that she can't split it on the machine so she just wanted to know how many ways to split it and she would charge us. We said 'six', leaving out the driver. She told us it was therefore £38 each. We were tipsy and paid. No receipts. Of course today I realise that means the bill was £229 and were were significantly overcharged - the bottles of wine were £24 each and there was a bottle of sparkling water so obviously we should have paid less than half that.

We are all feeling very poor and foolish today (but not hungover!) but is there anything I can do? We had a table booking and know what number it was and I can walk into the bar today but do I have any leg to stand on?

It goes without saying we were very wrong but any advice on approaching it would be welcomed!

Absolutely complain, but once you have left there is nothing that can be done. There won't be any evidence one way or another, unless the till has stored your account for the night.

Same happened to my son, he didnt check bill until next day & there was a bottle of wine on it. People on next table were drinking wine he rang up & they refunded it. You can only try.

It's definitely worth going in or ringing them. I hate when shit like this happens!

Of course you can get in touch and ask for the details of what they charged you fro, just call them or pop in. Why wouldn't you?

I'm not sure that's completely true. Cctv showing what drinks they had, stock levels, plus cross referencing the 6 card numbers with payment records?

I would go in and speak to them. If they've got any sort of handle on their finances and stock it would be easy for them to check.

I used to deal with queries like this and I would always make the refund.

I went it: they could pull up the bill from the table last night immediately and the manager on duty was lovely and very apologetic (yes - another table's bill had been added to ours by mistake) and she is going to process the refund so all's well that ends well. She said it was very hard in hospitality at the moment, they are understaffed and training and said 'thank you for not coming and screaming at me' which made me feel sorry for her (but not enough to forgoe the £85 overcharge!).
