Cyclical Joint Pain . Why??

I’ve had pain in my wrist joints and back on and off for years. I’ve noticed it tends to flare up around the time of my period; but it’s so bad it interferes with my work and social life.

I finished my cycle a few days ago and the pain in one of my joints is just awful. It feels severely bruised. It does not feel like bone pain but soft tissue pain. I can’t put weight on it, can’t flex it as it’s so painful even to touch . There’s no swelling or redness .

The pain is making me miserable. It interferes with normal jobs and the smallest movement is painful. If I press the sore area (right in the middle of my wrist) it is agony.

I also get pain in my lower back around the same time and again it settles down after my cycle. The pain has been so severe in my back, I couldn’t get out of bed for 3 days and spent the whole time crying as my back was in severe spasm. Other months it’s not as bad but it feels like my back is about to “go” at any time.

It all disappears after a week or so and then it comes back the next month.

Does anyone else get this?

Why do my joints hurt before a period?
This is likely because estrogen levels plummet right before menstruation and rise again after a woman's period is over

Wait until peri menopause/menopause hits!

Can perimenopause cause joint pain?
There are estrogen receptors in your joints; estrogen protects bones and helps keep joint inflammation low. As estrogen levels decline during perimenopause (the first stage of menopause), the joints can swell and become painful.
