Buying an auction item from Ebay UK

I recently bought an item as above. It was delivered by the postman today and is damaged and unuseable. Who do you contact first to get a refund, do you contact the seller or Ebay? There is a notice next to the item 'This seller does not accept returns for this item'. It was a solid block of powder foundation in a plastic compact. I can't afford to lose £40. Thanks.

I'd contact the seller in the first instance. Give them a chance to put it right.

Thanks, I'll give that a try then.

Protocol is:
Contact seller, politely explain problem and ask for what you want (return for full refund or whatever)

If seller response doesn't satisfy you -- open not as described case (ebay resolution centre) to get your money back upon item return.

Ebay will coordinate what happens but polite thing to do is to engage with seller to see if they can fix the problem rather than put whole ebay machine against them.

The seller should refund you and they can then claim through the postage service they used (assuming it was sent recorded as regular post only covers up to £20) if it was damaged in transit take photos of the item and packaging to send them.

Definitely take photos of the damage and the packaging, or lack of, now, as you need them as proof.

Send them to the seller with a polite explanation and request full refund including postage costs. Do not mention feedback in any way at all as this could be feedback extortion.

If they don't, open a not as described case with eBay, attaching the photos if there is a section to do so.

The seller will either Co-operate and refund you or if they don't, eBay will refund you anyway.
