I've just lost the plot completely with DS1

He's 20yo and wanted a new piece of furniture now he's "entertaining" a longish term GF. (Not a bed if that's relevant).

I agreed to buy it (as it's for the house and something we've been meaning to get for ages) but we agreed he'd be here for the delivery. He works shifts so we arranged delivery for a day when he was starting after I'm home so we had it covered.

As I bought it, all the reminder texts came to me and I forwarded them to him.

I reminded him this afternoon (I know I shouldn't need to) that the space needs to be cleared for delivery tomorrow.

He response, no problem I'll do it later, but you do realise I'm working days tomorrow.

No DS, I didn't. We specifically arranged that day because you said you'd be in and if that's changed why haven't you said so when you got one of the numerous reminders?

Only I was properly screaming at him about how he'd have to find a way to solve this problem and I wasn't doing it for him, this is what being a grown up is about. All reasonable points but I was vile Blush

DS has solved it. He's done a nice favour for his brother in exchange for DS2 making himself available for the delivery. It was the way he first attempted to dump it at my door that made me see red.

So DS does need to step up and take responsibility, but my response was way OTT.

What can I do to manage these outbursts? It's always DS1 who rubs me up the wrong way like this and I can easily see a time when I've driven him away Sad

I don't think you were unreasonable at all it's your house and an adult is taking the piss.

Sometimes you do have to give people the full on honest raw emotions for them to finally realize that you actually do mean what you say.

You are not his servant and it's your house not his. He's an adult. Well done for calling him out on this and not allowing the man child to form.

His future wife will thank you.

Friend has a couple of boys just a bit older, they are forever trying to dump their boring shit on her for her to do instead and they don't even live at home. Don't worry you've stopped it before it starts.

Does he always talk down to you like you're his employee? He seems awfully comfortable doing so. Does he perhaps enjoy goading you?

Anyway, he's 20 and disrespectful to the householder. Time for him to move out to his own house.

Ime dc - even adult ish ones - have no idea of the repercussions of being half arsed about stuff..
We had a day out planned. Long day. Ds wasn't coming but arranged he be in for the ddogs. He slept out the night before but assured me he would be home at 10 am. Definitely he said. Absolutely definitely.
He got home at 4pm and ddog had eaten through 2 ink cartridges
.. And stepped in the ink then danced all round the house.
I actually cried...
Ds was so blasé. Apparently he had mopped it off the lino so why was I mad?
Spread it all over in reality..
I was a crazed woman. I won't lie I had murderous thoughts...
Shock

It happens. Bet he won’t do it again either.

You may have over reacted but he was also in the wrong and sometimes that’s what it takes to get people to sit up and notice.

If it was a one off I wouldn’t think much more about it tbh.
