I thought I was Claire Foy, but I’m Olivia Coleman

I’m rewatching The Crown and I was sure I was still in my Claire Foy reign. But series 3 starts when The Queen was 38. I’m 40, well into my Olivia Coleman years.

Don’t get me wrong, I adore Olivia. She’s an amazing woman. But her portrayal of her maj in series 3/4 is definitely that of middle age. I just don’t feel like a middle aged grown up yet, I don’t even have a mortgage!

I wonder if/when I will mentally feel older than 25?

(My body however is a different story…that definitely believes I’m middle aged Grin)

I'm rewatching Dallas. Don't put yourselves through it. Turns out Miss Ellie, JR and Sue Ellen were not old.Confused

But the queen was your age around 50 years ago. Things were very different -women were ladies - ladies had perms, curlers, dyed hair was for those who were no better than they should have been ! My mother in law - close to the same age- was scandalised by my red toe nails.

And poor queen was expected to be the most ladylike of all…

Who remembers the eighties supergroup, the Travelling Wilburys? Ageing rockers our dads loved, all together for a last hurrah? Enjoy:
No way! Someone bought my parents that album (they weren't impressed) and I recall thinking they were all old gimmers. Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty are younger there than I am now!

I recently asked my 75-year-old dad at what age he felt like a grown-up, and he said he still didn't. So I guess there's no such thing as a grown-up, you spend your whole life figuring it all out.

I wonder if there’s something to be said for the freedom of becoming frumpy overnight?

Is it simpler to get a wash and set once a week, not having to dye my greys and having a trusty uniform of low heels, thick tights and an elastic waisted skirt? Especially if no one expects any more from you!!

That photo is hilarious - a combined age of over 200 and not a grey hair among them - and they say it's only women that are vain!

Me too. It’s depressing.

My MIL is in her 60s and isn't fashionable but dresses quite well for her age and has a good idea of what goes. We recently found a photo of her with my DH as a baby so she was 31 and she was dressed like a 50year old. She dresses much younger now. I think people used to dress a lot older once they settled down and had kids

@Bagelsandbrie

I felt like this too Grin

I look at other people my age (41) and think Christ they look old and like a proper grown up.

I’m in total denial.

I'm 34 and think like that. It sounds like it's not going to change then! Grin
