Privacy concerns my arse

An unidentifiable thread, where most people strongly disagree with op.

They then have "privacy concerns".

Aye, right. Hmm

How does it affect you? Maybe they do have privacy concerns if the thread gets a lot of traction, the papers can pick it up.

PurpleDaisies · 09/11/2021 22:57

This happens all the time. It is annoying.

SexyNeckbeard · 09/11/2021 22:59

Nope they just don't like the answers

Rather a strange thing to do, posting on a public forum about a problem if you are worried about privacy.

It takes quite an ego for someone to assume in the whole of the U.K., they are the only ones “with a husband who does a hobby”

Exactly.

Yes it was a fairly common problem with absolutely nothing identifying about it.

Why does it actually matter?

SoupDragon · 10/11/2021 17:32

I just roll my eyes at that excuse and move on.

To be fair... I’d be happy to post on MN because I know my husband and some others in my life definitely aren’t on here and won’t see it. But that no longer applies if the thread has been picked up by the media. It’s much more likely that my husband will see it in the news, especially because the news also shares articles on their Facebook page. Also if I post on here I expect a certain demographic to read it, I don’t intend it to be read and commented on by a load of Daily Mail readers. So if my thread appeared in the media I’d ask for it to be taken down.

People complain about deletions do it because they get bitter because their pile-on ended.

You'd think so but the papers pick up the weirdest threads. It's probably the last thing on people;s minds when they post if they're already emotional or worried. Some people don't have anyone to talk to in real life.
Kentuckycarby · 11/11/2021 14:01

@FortunesFave Exactly!

i started a thread once about my sister, it mde it to classics and as it was quite identifiable (and to be honest i didnt mind so much about that thread identifying me) but rather that people would instantly know wo i was from that thread as quite unique and then be able to read my other posts where i have spoken about more personal things i wouldnt want everyone knowing. I askend Mumsnet to change the posting name on the thread so it still remained but kept the rest of my online mumsnet activity from being connected.
