Private swimming lessons for a child - worth the expense?

Dd is almost 7, and has skipped years of swimming lessons because of COVID. I’ve signed her up to a new class at the leisure centre, but there are a lot of children and she isn’t learning fast and she’s upset because apparently, in her group, are “mostly reception children”. She can’t swim at all without a noodle.

Another mum suggested private swimming lessons to help her catch up to the peers she wants to be in the same level as.

Has anyone ever booked them for their dc? Were they good? Worth the money? And how long did it take to see a proper improvement?

IHateCoronavirus no problem effectively they are trying to get them to swim 10 metres without a float which is stage 3 the teacher doesn't sound like they understand the staging programme.

I've always favoured private lessons for anything I've learned myself, but my DC enjoy group lessons more!! For some reason, they've been more willing to copy classmates and encourage each other. This has been the case with both swimming and skiing. I think group camaraderie has won in these instances.

100%
When they do groups they wait in turn to do stuff so only swim for about 5 mins out of 30

It's cheaper in the long run?

We did it with a friend so booked a private lesson for the two of them and he moved up 5 hats in a year, so much faster

Also he wasn't keen on swimming lessons and we said once he could do 100m he could knock it on the head so he was pleased too!

My DD has had 1 to 1 lessons since she was 6. She’s now 9, pretty much perfect in all 4 strokes and swims for the school team. We will be giving them up at Xmas as she swims once a week with school and once a week in swim club. It’s been expensive but worth it for her to swim so well.
