Waterproof gloves for a 3 year old. Do they exist?

DS needs gloves for Forest School. He has woolly mitts but they've specified gloves.

I thought that it would make sense if they were waterproof because if he'll be touching things then woolly ones will be useless if they get wet.

But apparently no child under five needs waterproof gloves. I can't find any. Can anyone help? Should I just stop overthinking and get wool ones?

Decathlon should have some when they get the skiing stuff in - smallest size is 2-4 I think.

HazelandChacha · 08/11/2021 19:41

Ski gloves would be waterproof but not sure if you could get them cheaper. These say 1-3 for Xs size

gloves

I assume they have just specified gloves rather than mittens so they have full use of fingers to pick things up easier, does it matter if they get a bit wet occasionally?

Muddy Puddles sell them.

Thank for the replies! I don't mind at all if they get wet, but IME, wet wool feels worse than no gloves at all. (But I might just be a wimp!). I'll have a look at those links.

Yes of course they do. Ski gloves or ‘nordic’ brands generally good

I recommend Kuling (Swedish)

Changechangychange · 08/11/2021 19:48

H&M have them every year. As do JojoMamanBebe, but H&M are cheaper.

Personally I'd go with more than one pair of magic gloves (so they can put a dry pair on), and a pair of waterproof mitts they can put over the top if it is really pissing down.

WalkingOnSonshine · 08/11/2021 19:50

I got some on Vinted for a couple of quid, still a bit too big for 10 month old DC though.

CaptainMorgansMistress · 08/11/2021 19:50

Most ski type gloves for little ones are mits rather than fingers because mits keep their hands warmer. The decathlon cheap ski mits are good

InTheLabyrinth · 08/11/2021 19:51

H&M will (or at least age 4+)

athejhfhfn · 08/11/2021 19:52

Don’t buy the muddy puddles ones! I bought two pairs for two of my kids and it’s an absolute nightmare trying to put them on. Hard as hell to put on. I returned them straight away and in hindsight I should have read the reviews which states this issue

Shmithecat2 · 08/11/2021 19:53

For forest school, ski gloves/waterproof mitts are usually too padded to be useful. The gloves need to be as thin as possible so they 'use' they fingers as normally as possible.

spondoolikay · 08/11/2021 19:53

Jojomaman Bebe ones are good

ponkydonkey · 08/11/2021 19:55

H &M ones are great 😊

They do mittens too

bizboz · 08/11/2021 19:56

Go Outdoors usually has some.

Kaffiene · 08/11/2021 19:57

When I asked our nursery they said they preferred lots of pairs of magic wool gloves. We also use decathlon mittens as they zip right open, so easy to get on.

Kaffiene · 08/11/2021 19:58

Also thermal layers that have long sleeves and thumb holes. With enough layers on my son rarely wears his gloves.

DGFB · 08/11/2021 20:00

H&M or Polarn o Pyret. The P O Pyret ones last years and can be handed through the generations

DiamondSnow · 08/11/2021 20:04

Ski gloves are usually not waterproof at all. They are water resistant enough for you to be able to brush snow off but get soaking and heavy in the rain.

MaggieFS · 08/11/2021 22:07

Thank you, I think ski gloves would be too bulky sadly.

I have no idea what magic gloves are and Google isn't helping!!

Magic gloves are just those wool type ones that stretch to the size of their hands.

I've never found a good pair of kids waterproof gloves, sorry.

pastabest · 08/11/2021 22:21

We don't do forest school but we do live on a farm.

At the start of every winter I buy a metric shit ton of cheap kids wool gloves / mitts from the supermarket. I've found children manage stuff fine in mitts and they are infinitely easier to put on than gloves so I would check that they definitely are unhappy with mitts.

However just don't bother with waterproof gloves. Impossible to put on small fingers. Far better to have 5 pairs of wool gloves/mitts and just change them as they get wet. They will be able to do far less in waterproof gloves than they would in wool mitts

liveforsummer · 09/11/2021 07:30

Look at riding gloves, the grippy palms give an element of waterproof and they can still use their fingers freely as needed around horses. Bulky ski gloves on teeny fingers wouldn't allow for picking things up or much use of hands
