Has this happened to anyone? I know it can, supposedly, but just wondering how likely it is, I suppose! (Obvious answer being: not very…)

It's happened to millions of women over time.

GoodnightGrandma · 07/11/2021 21:56

Yes it happens, that’s why the rod is better.

Goosethemoose · 07/11/2021 21:59

Thank you 😂

Definitely happens! My eldest, gorgeous boy happened via that route. Wouldn't change him for the world, heck of a shock at the time though..

Cuck00soup · 07/11/2021 22:01

You are advised to take additional contraceptive measures for 7 days following an upset stomach.

The issue now is what do you want to do now? Do you have real life support? Thanks

Goosethemoose · 07/11/2021 22:03

Yeah, I’m fine, I’ve just had a slightly dodgy stomach today and the thought crossed my mind. Thanks for asking :)

Oh dear chilledteacher! Must have been a shock… were you very ill, if you don’t mind me asking?

My youngest was conceived this way. Dodgy tummy, was being sick all day then a few weeks later surprise, here's a positive pregnancy test after not getting my withdrawal bleed. He's 6 now and I wouldn't change him for the world.

Whendidthishappen · 07/11/2021 22:10

Yep, this is the reason my aunt and has a, now, 20 year olds son

Goosethemoose · 07/11/2021 22:14

What about an upset stomach that, how can I put this delicately, is not resulting in vomiting?

OP posts:
osprey24 · 07/11/2021 23:18

yes, it happens, he's now 39 and I love him to bits.

NowEvenBetter · 08/11/2021 00:04

Obviously. I have a digestive tract from hell, I ensure no sperm is in me, ever, and I control when I take the pill. It’s not difficult.

NowEvenBetter · 08/11/2021 00:05

Twenty years and counting of being childfree, unimpregnated and able to use contraception 🙌

Goosethemoose · 08/11/2021 07:23

That doesn’t really prove much… if there’s no sperm then the pill is pretty irrelevant- as is an upset stomach!

Interesting to hear it’s happened to some people.

I know someone who had one bout of diarrhoea, ie one loose stool, and got pregnant.
She was quite happy to be pregnant, but it was a bit of a shock.

Yes of course. Anything that upsets your normal digestion can affect how the pill is absorbed (or rather - it isn't absorbed). If you have the squits, everything is going straight through you so may not be absorbed properly. If you're on the pill and aren't well, then abstain or use alternative contraception for a while (at least a couple of weeks).
Melroses · 08/11/2021 11:12

First six days are crucial.

Gonnagetgoing · 08/11/2021 11:24

I've got a friend who this happened to. She had a vomiting bug which lasted 2-3 days but didn't think to use additional contraception and ended up pregnant. She was in her 20's and unplanned and had the baby but just didn't think about it and thought the pill would work.

NewLifePending · 08/11/2021 11:42

It happened to me, twice. I’m a little different in that I have a Crohn’s disease but it took me two pregnancies to realise the pill wasn’t for me!

EgonSpengler2020 · 08/11/2021 11:46

Friend at uni had it happen. The "upset stomach" wasn't even that bad. She had an abortion in order to be able to finish her degree, but went on the marry and have 3 kids with the father after graduating.

Fleur405 · 08/11/2021 11:54

Just google detox tea (which basically contain a laxative) and contraceptive pill - yes it happens!

Goosethemoose · 08/11/2021 16:23

Interesting! I’ve googled it and had a good read.

Not hugely. Dodgy curry rather than full on illness.
Talkwhilstyouwalk · 08/11/2021 22:46

Very unlikely if you miss 1, 2 or even 3 pills. So a day or 2 or stomach upset won't be an issue. . Takes the average person 14 days to ovulate after stopping the pill so if you missed a weeks worth or were ill for a week (yet still found time to dtd) I'd be worried. A few days though should be fine.
