Nursery gave my son something they knew from blood tests that he is allergic. He is 2 its a private nursery. Should I take it further or leave it? His lips swelled up and he was scratching with red blotchy patches

Do they know they did it? They certainly need to be aware because as you say it could have been a lot more serious so they need to reassess their procedures and make sure all staff are aware of the needs of all the chikdren with allergies.
I had a similar thing once. My FS is allerhic to sesame amongst other things and he was given a breadstick out of a mixed pack once and teacted. The nursery nurse hadn't realised that cross contamination was such an issue. It was a genuine mistake, no malice intended, but obviously it could have been very harmful so we had yo jave a conversation about it. The nursery took it as a learning experience and made sure all the staff were better educated. I was happy with that. The woman who made the mistake was lovely, and felt bad enough as it was - I didn't want her disciplined or anything, just for it not to happen again! I'm sure you feel the same, so have a word with the manager.

Raise it. You need to ask what changes they will be putting in place to prevent this happening again. Does he have a care plan detailing what to do if he is exposed to this allergen?

I would go batshit at this. My son has allergies and so many places and people don't take it seriously but nursery have a duty of care, they have to take it seriously.

Is there a care plan in place? Does he have allergy medicine at nursery in case of exposure?
