Do you have one?
Are they worth it?

I do like and appreciate a good soup but am wondering if this is another novelty gadget.

'It's the weather for soup, after all.

I love mine. I bought an expensive one with sauté option. I wouldn’t bother with the sauté bit again as you have to have the lid on for it to work so you can’t stir and things don’t fry off evenly.
But I love it. I cook four potions and freeze any leftovers. It gets good use.

FemaleAndLearning · 07/11/2021 09:43

I borrowed one to try and thought it was a complete faff, much easier in my large saucepan with my hand blender.

IsDaveThere · 07/11/2021 09:43

I love mine too. I know someone will come on in a few mins to say that soup is easy to make with a saucepan and stick blender, but I always seem to make an almighty mess when I do it that way!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/11/2021 09:44

i have come on after being reminded to use my stick blender
what a mess
but i didnt like the soup maker the one time i used it.

CrotchetyQuaver · 07/11/2021 09:46

Yes we like our soup maker, when the first one died from overwork we replaced it! You've got me thinking about making up some now, broccoli and Stilton I think for today...

MrsDThomas · 07/11/2021 09:46

Had one and got rid. Much easier with a saucepan and blender. I like to bulk cook and a soup maker didn’t cut it.

Yourdeadtome · 07/11/2021 09:48

I don’t get them. A pan and blender, job done

Trixiefirecracker · 07/11/2021 09:49

I had one but think pan is much easier!

BlackAlys · 07/11/2021 10:20

I'm divided.

What are your best soup recipes?

I’ve just this morning bought the Soup Chef Pro after watching one of those cheesy shopping channels. Blush

Drew and Cole, who make it, have loads of recipes and a free app if that helps OP?

SummerOrAutumn · 07/11/2021 10:23

Big saucepan and stick blender. Never been tempted to buy a soup maker. Can't see the advantage over what I already do.

Love a big pan of lentil and vegetable or chickpea and roast carrot, onion & garlic.

Sunflowerfieldsofgold · 07/11/2021 10:24

Love mine as I can just go off and have a bath knowing it will be ready when I get out.
I dont like those stick blenders as it splatters everywhere, then big pan and blender to wash.
I just pop my chopped veg in, add stock and switch on.
Rinse under the tap and done.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 07/11/2021 10:24

I love ours. Yes, you can do just the same in a saucepan with a stick blender but the reason I like it is that it doesn’t require supervision. You just stick everything in, go off and do something else and 20 minutes later, hey presto! Soup!

TempleofZoom · 07/11/2021 10:25

The difference is you have to time/ watch the pan then the stupid blender means it splatters everything!
I just set the programme and it does it all Smile

ineedsun · 07/11/2021 10:26

The only problem is that it’s only big enough to make soup for 2-3 people. But I love mine, especially if I’m working at home. I just stick the stuff in and put it on in the morning and have hot soup ready at lunchtime. It’s the only one of our kitchen gadgets which is always out. And it has a set clean function which is even better.

ineedsun · 07/11/2021 10:26

*self clean

PuppyMonkey · 07/11/2021 10:33

Ooh yay, some positive reviews.Grin

Big pan and a blender, no thanks that sounds scary.

1Week · 07/11/2021 10:38

I was on Team pot-and -blender til mum got me one, when they were in Lidl or Aldi.
Love it! A much smoother texture and easier to clean up after. Definitely use it twice or 3 times a week and gives a good filling portion to 2 adults and 3 primary age kids

stinky · 07/11/2021 10:46

Soup makers are fabulous. I have one with a saute function which is brilliant for flavour. Unlike pp mine doesn't need the lid on while sauteing so easy to stir. 20 mins and delicious soup. Can choose from chunky or smooth options.

AnaVanda · 07/11/2021 11:05

I've got a cheap one from George at Asda and it's brilliant. No saute function but does the job and makes great soup in 20 minutes. Handy for using up leftover veg too.

JingsMahBucket · 07/11/2021 11:16

Do all soup makers blend the soup or is there an option to leave the soup chunky?

Also, how are people splattering everywhere with their immersion blenders?? Insert the immersion blender all the way to bottom of the soup pot then start to blend. If you start on the liquid surface that will make it splash.

GrandmasCat · 07/11/2021 11:21

I love mine. I think having the sautee option is what makes all the difference.

I fry the stuff a bit to start with, add water and 2chicken cubes and is ready 20 minutes later without me having to babysit it while it works.

It also keeps hot for ages. So no hurries about serving straight away.

GrandmasCat · 07/11/2021 11:23

Mine has three options, blend, chunky or juice but I can also blend manually to the desired consistency if I want to.

NanTheWiser · 07/11/2021 11:25

I’ve had a Morphy Richards sauté and soup maker for about 5 years, and I love it! My weekly lunches in winter are home made soup, so I make a batch on a Sunday which gives me four good servings. Easy to clean up afterwards too.

@JingsMahBucket, there is usually a chunky option if you want it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/11/2021 11:40

I’ve got the compact morphy Richards and love it! I have an addiction to Lea and mint soup.

It’s mushroom soup for lunch today.
